SolLesHonda
Update ... Tuned at 14.5 psi (1 bar) 296 whp 223 wtq. Will get graph from shop when I go back up there. Still in the process of tuning and making minor adjustments. Can't wait to drive it. It sounds/looks so mean guys.
CleanGSR
If you have had it tuned, then how have you not driven it yet?
SolLesHonda
We tuned it at 14.5 psi and I got a couple new parts I want to put on. Edelbrock manifold and 68 mm throttle body. I drove it but I want to like get on it. I can't because I just put a new clutch in too ... I really want it back, but I still have just a tadmore work to do. I am going to keep it 14.5 psi for daily driving I think. It's fast though from the drive around the shop. I only drove it for about three minutes. We didn't have the new clutch in yet either. Major slippage.
CleanGSR
Yeah I bet. Can't wait to take a ride in it if we do the Ohio meet.
SolLesHonda
I took it easy out of the dig, and then floored it and spun completely through first, put it in second, clutch slipped, and when it caught the tires spun all the way through again, and slipped bad in third. It is quick though. I can tell. I'll let you drive it if we do the Ohio meet. Granted you let me test out a b series.
CleanGSR
Sounds like a deal to me. You'll be dissapointed with the B after what you'll be used to though.
SolLesHonda
Nah ... becuase if you turbo'd that, I'd be toast. With the new Crower cam, when it hits VTEC, it is so damn loud. Like no joke. I thought a B series in VTEC with I/H/E was loud, but my God, it screams. Go D Series !!!
CleanGSR
I might eventually turbo my car, but by the time I get around to it, I'll have to address the high mileage. I'm about to break 100k. That's over 26,000 miles since I got the car not even a year ago. By this time next year I'll have around 130k. I'm not really sure how high a mileage motor it's okay to turbo either. SolLesHonda
Right. I mean honestly an option for you could be buy a new b16a long block from hmotors for 900. Then build that and keep your tranny. That would be a good idea IMO. I didn't spend very much money for the power I am making. You really could boost your motor on 10 psi safely on stock internals with Hondata.
blackdelsol
damn. b series kind of dissapointed me actually. don't get me wrong, it is no comparison to my d16y7, but I would like forced induction. +1 for you. I'de like to see it
CleanGSR
Yeah seriously. I'm starting to get psi envy.
blackdelsol
btw. My motor already has 130k on it. I don't think it'll be a problem if sleeved and completely built.
SolLesHonda
Oh and major +1 for Crower cams. I think the b16 with a good cam and 10 psi would be a great match for my built motor on 15 psi.
blackdelsol
what stage? I'm getting crower street/strip stage 2 cams this summer.
CleanGSR
You also have about 100 lbs less than us too because of your lighter motor.
SolLesHonda
I got the turbo cam stage 2. Make sure you have the car tuned when you get them though. With the cam, there was a noticeable difference. My idle isn't as clean and nice as stock, but not "lopey" or rough. It sounds mean honestly. I idle around 900 when the car is completely warmed up. blackdelsol
yea. I kind of like that rough idle. I looked at the turbo cams, but the ones im getting seemed a little more suited for n/a for now and they should work fine under boost.
SolLesHonda
True. They will, I just figured since I was already boosted, why not. Rough idle sounds cool and all, but sucks on gas. Also attracts mad po-po at a light when a little del sol is that damn loud.
blackdelsol
yea but when you turbo a car you don't think about mpg. btw, is there anything i have to do to raise my rev limit other than building the head? honestly I don't know that much about valve float other than a lightweight valvetrain helps.... I want to go 9k rpms +
SolLesHonda
Why do you want to rev that high ? There is really no point, you won't make much power up there. Are you going turbo or NA ? If you go NA 10,000 RPM is possible, but for a boosted application, not necessary, at all.
Humphries
8500 would be cool in it though.
SolLesHonda
Right now I am red lining at 7500 rpm, and rev limiter is set at 8000. I'm tempted to take it that high, but no reason to. Other than just to watch the tach go all the way down
