Z FEVER!

Recommended Posts

This is the Z a friend and I got for free. The guy's had it for a long ass time and had it just sitting on the curb like that for 9 years. He just wants to get rid of it. His son's not a car person and doesn't like working on them, so the owner decided to give it to us. The price is to help fix the guy's son's brakes, then get this thing running. Clean title and everything.

The best part: Guy has his living room corner filled with parts for this thing. Brand new/refurbished OEM. Stuff for engine, wiring, exterior pieces, etc.

I took alot more pics, but Flickr can only let me upload so much a month.

rb26dett is a pain in the as$ and cost way to much to put in the old school z's.. rb25 or GTFH

As far as a swap is concerned, I wanna keep the car well balanced. It's not all about numbers in terms of horsepower with this car. If I do swap it, I wanna make sure that the motor isn't too big. A VG30, F20C (S2K motor), 13B, 20B, boxer motor, or SR20 seems something I'd swap in.

You're aware an LS1 weighs less than a 13B, yes? Do some digging, you'll be amazed at what you find.

One of the main reasons a lot of people pick LS1's to go into RX7's rather than other rotary engines. It weighs less than the original 13b, and FAR less than the larger 20b.

Wow, seriously? I'll definitely look into that. What about the LS7?

I just wanna make the motor sit as far back as possible behind the front wheels too... That's why I considered the rotaries, F20C, SR20...

i'd do the ls1... or 302, they both would be fun. a 302 would probably be cheaper.

302's are pains in the ass to swap in because of their front mount dizzy's and sump configuration on the oil pan. SBC fit right in.

BTW

My swapped SBC Z car is for sale I highly suggest while everyone is getting Z cars someone buy mine! I guess Ive gotta make a thread on it now huh?

ls7 is prolly way more expensive. v8 is shorter than the stock i6 isn't it? so having it sit further back shouldn't be too hard, right?

Ls7 Is big money and honestly an ls1 is your best bang for the buck if you have to swap it. My SBC rests against the firewall and the front cylinders sit behind the front strut mounts. I have a giant amount of space between my radiator and motor. Once again I need to get a photobucket and upload some pics and show you.

Preeeeeeeeeeetty much. For being a V8, it's not physically huge.. unlike modular Ford motors. When they're in F-Bodies, they look massive; in other cars..not so much.

And a side note -- despite the fact even a Mazda Miata comes with a small four cylinder.. when equipped with a 302 or LS1 the weight balance doesn't go that far out of whack, it's almost spot on, actually. Also why swaps in those cars are becoming so popular.
