VR17
Locking every other thread and coming up with rules on a whim to warn people for (what is the point of "warn" anyway?) makes the site look trashy too... Not that it is all the mod's, admin's, or regular's faults. There is simply a lot of tension between Regular's and Mod's, and everyone else and noob's, etc. I will probably never have as many posts as many of you, because I don't consider this my #1 pick for a forum because of all the garbage that comes up... BUT it is General Discussion, and technically speaking, if "Anything Goes", then anything should go, aside from porn and swearing or otherwise offensive material to an outsider looking in...i dont lock every other thread. anything dosent go in the GD , the admin made these rules, drew and trepid which they are rarely on. tension? its not alot of tension, you have to understand we treat everyone the same. again if anything, the regulars bash us. we just enforce rules here..To get back on topic, since it's "Extremely" important to some, as a nOOb, IMO SOME moderators push the limits of what would be considered reasonable for a mod. I read VR17's signature since that is important too apparently, and here's what I have to say about that: It appears that there is some hatred for just about everyone in that signature. Making rules like "its a newbie question, use the search button" is only flexing muscles. I've searched for things and gotten plenty of crap to sort through, and often times it would be much easier and quicker (not to mention, learn any updates to the old posts) to just start a "fresh" thread.thats just me, before you were ever on HF, most of the regs agreed i was a fair mod, except i lock a lot..Besides, that's what a message board is all about, discussion. On top of this, VR17's "Why did I get a warn?"postwhoringNow, because I'm tired of typing, tell me what looks trashy... The above "rules" for getting warned and posting etc., or starting a discussion about the direction of this board and it's moderators who want to carry power too far?... again you guys think we have power, we only use it when certain things go wrong. i warn people so they wouldnt do it again... if anyone has a problem! PM me !
Jeffro
if anyone has a problem! PM me ! I did... You never responded But my point isn't directed at you, or me and you... Having power is one thing. Warning "Because your Dumb" is inherintly, dumb. Anyway, I'm not saying you aren't fair (in most instances)... But this is a topic and I'm putting in my $.02 on the rules you happen to be enforcing. Does anyone who is not a mod think the rules I listed above are actually reasonable? (And respectably explained? THAT is tension.)

Jeffro
i have a maximum of 250 messages.. ok i emptied out a few.. go ahead and try it! I've figured it out on my own at this point... So what is the deal with "Warns" anyway? Does it affect posting ability, or does it just build and build until you're at 100%? Or does it go away over time? Warning to me seems like an excuse that often could be solved with a PM instead, like asking "Why?" sometimes... Again, my $.02... Seems to be happening a lot lately lol
CRG7
i believe i didn't make this thread based on ITRgirl, maybe its the BS that i'm referring to.exactly. No one but you can say why this thread was made, but everything was "fine" until I had to suspend ITRgirl. There is too little respect on this board anymore, and everyone is tired of it. Whether it's the new members getting flamed, or moderators being disrespected, it's childish and there is no reason for it. So until this lets up, warnings and suspensions will have to continue. Someone asked the point of warnings. They let the member, and the other moderators/admins know what is going on. When someone repeatedly breaks the rules, the percentage will go up, and when it's just been enough, the user will be suspended or will require his/her posts/threads to be approved before being posted. As for the rules, they are set and are posted at the top of the GD here. We don't make up rules on a whim as much as anyone would like to believe. Yes, new rules end up getting added, but that's when they are necessary, ie the multiple accounts that we had to deal with recently. I'm sure the account that was made recently was all in good fun, but it got carried away. The users that posted under that account just ended up posting in on-topic threads to make them go off topic, and we received reports from members regarding the user account. At that point, it's no longer fun but annoying. As for the respect issue, that's just common sense in everyday life. It shouldn't have to be a rule, but there's too much disrespect floating around here anymore. You don't have to like everyone, but there is no reason you can't be civil to everyone. Like I said before, sure this is the GD forum, so maybe "anything" should go... but there are reasons that not everything should go. No one would enjoy this place if every time you tried to read a message, respond, or post a new thread/poll you got error messages from the database or server being overloaded. There's no point in wasting the database on: the sky is blue mi so dnk rht nw i cnt pst etc. threads. There is nothing wrong with discussions that every member of the forum can partake in without it becoming a race to rack up post counts, which is another problem with the majority of the threads in this forum. Then again, there is nothing wrong with starting a new thread for a new discussion instead of leading one that was on-topic off-topic, but since that hardly happens unfortunately a lot of good threads get wasted on the lock. There is no reason to argue about things being locked. Half of the threads that are created lately, that get locked, everyone knows they will be locked. Most of the time, the creator of the thread even knows it will get locked but tries it anyway. You guys are all well aware of the rules of the board, so there is no reason to argue about things getting locked or deleted.

mountaindewguy
those "useless" posts usually end up in a group discussion about something, just so you know, and WE, you know, the people that use the board, have alot of fun with them, but now they just get locked. I guess I'm the newest post whore >_< From what I've seen, you're far from a post whore. mountaindew: Just like you said, it may result in a group discussion, but that group discussion is usually not related to what the topic was originally about. You've been around here long enough to know the difference between an acceptable thread and an unacceptable one, so I really don't know why you're still trying to argue about this. All in all, it is absolutely ridiculous that us moderators have to deal with these threads every time the rules are broken and we take action. If you don't like the rules, then this may not be the forum for you. Most of us moderators have been here for 4 years or more. We've seen plenty of people come and go, and have dealt with pretty much every kind of crap that you guys can throw at us. There is no fairness in saying that the moderators are "never on". As I've said before, there are 4 active moderators. One happens to be away right now, but even at this time there are 3 moderators that are on here usually a few times a day each (I'm hardly ever on on weekends, but there's usually not much going on then anyway). Again, as I've said before, we don't get to post as much as some members do (not naming names here lol), but that is because we have jobs to do first and foremost, which can sometimes take up all of the time we have to be on here. There is also no reason to say that any of us are unfair or that anyone abuses his/her power. In the 4+ years that I've been a moderator on this forum, not a single moderator or admin has abused his/her power. There is a strong moderating team on this board, and despite what anyone wants to believe, this is an extremely fair moderating team. You all like to think that we're just out to get you, that we warn and suspend members because we don't like them, or whatever else, but every action that is taken is for a reason and is for the good of this forum. CleanGSR
Bottom line is that you clogged a bunch of threads with stupid posts and made it a pain to weed through. You clogged all the useful threads with a bunch of crap. It might have been a different story if you had only posted in GD instead of everywhere on the forum.
