Anyone know about "Frozen Rotors" brand?

I am still in the process of trying to get a complete brake set up for my car and thought I settled on Brembo rotors. Then after reading a lot of negative reviews on drilled Brembos I came across Frozen Rotors or cryogenically treated rotors. Has anyone heard of these rotors or have any personal experience with them? What do you think about them, hype or viable?

I say no freakin way with those weights! my OE new rotors weigh 9.7 fronts, and 6.8 rears in boxes!

You never want to add unsprung weight if you can help it!

Okay MPEARCE...if price was not an issue and the additional lbs per wheel, still a no go for you?

I thought I was sold on drilled Brembos but read more negative than good reviews so I am back at square one. I know I am not going to get 100% positive comments on any item but now that I look at it the former owner put some high performance probably track performance brakes on the car and thus they have to warm up and it takes time in order for them to perform and they sound like metal grinding until they warm up. I had put a set on my RX-7 thinking racing components were "cool" and like a dumbsh-t found out racing products are for the track not the street. I want performance but also want streetability and I guess if I am going to have to go another route for "cool" rather than "stupid cool". Maybe waste the money on a custom paint job....but I still want the car to stop and do it well. I don't want to plan well in advance of making the stop.

I say Brembo blanks if you are after a name and dependability, and the Hawk pads. I went with all new rotors and Hawks for $160.00 total and I am done. OE rotors, at my cost. Not looking for HI performance brakes at this point, just have 2 that are warped now, and went the economical route. Once I turbo and what not, I will be looking into upgrading whole system.

Oh and yeah I still would not go with the frozen whatyamacallits. Unless they were made next to Ted Williams frozen head, and signed by Walt Disney!

you could go autozone rotors but I saw a guy on the track crack the center section off..I'll pass..I had brembo blanks and they ended up warping on me fairly quickly..So far I've been impressed with the ATE's rotors. I got them from tire rack for $47 each.

And for a streetable pad go with hawk HPS...The HP+ is borderline track only..

my hawk hps pads have done me well. i have brembo blanks all around. they have suited me well and after negotiating with the distributor I got all 4 and the pads shipped for $125 - which was cheaper then my local napa/autozone/oriliey's/advance

unless you are tracking the car autozone or brembo blanks are more then suitable for your del sol. drilled brembos get a negative rap because: a: brembo does not drill honda rotors, most are blanks drilled by aftermarket companies and crack even worse then actual factory drilled products. b: drilled or slotted rotors are intended for track only. if you drive them on the street and they fail it's your fault, not the product.

Any rotor can break on track. Autozone rotors hold up better than any other out there. Drilled/slotted (any brand) shouldn't be used on track. Slotted doesn't do jack, and drilled is begging to crack fast.

are you racing?

no?

brembo blanks are plenty great for a DD and even a mild track car.. hawk pads are awesome also

ive had that combo on my car for over a year and the pads are barely worn down at all and it stops great

I ran a set of my track pads (Cobalt XR3's) on the street for about 6 months. Changed them out once the rotors weren't thick enough for the brakes to function anymore. Funny how long they last on the street compared to the track.

No, no tracking for me just want excellent ability to come to a stop. I figure when I am in a car a little bigger than a go kart I need all the help I can get. I had no idea as you probably guessed that Brembo did not do their own drilling on some of their products. That is is basically an added after production prcoess. That explains why some have positive results and others say the products suck.

No, Sweetie just my heart, just my heart is racing...good thing I have a bottle of nitro. Okay it looks like blanks it is. If I want to look cool, I'll shave my head and get it tatted with Tim Burton characters or plug my ear lobes.

So, Krill, you are saying track pads will wear down rotors in 6 months? Isn't that a little quick?

You know how to buy cars right, I know how to buy parts. Got it?

That is why I came here for advice on buying parts. I am not sure I even know how to buy cars at that..when I look at what I have owned it looks like a collection of insanity, from muscle cars to MBZ's, an Audi TT, Quad cab F-250 and still declining in taste as I age to a Ford Focus and now another Del Sol...I think it goes along with not aging gracefully but allowing senility to take control. Yes, I can buy cars and the dealers love seeing me walk in with the money but parts??? "Uh, can I get that red metalflake and green pearl plastic Chinese lantern air freshener to hang from my 36" wide rear view NASCAR mirror and my fake PVC roll bar, I think they look cool"...famous last words as the "Hall of Shame" fool parts with his money.

Oh and can I get you to change your avatar or whatever that photo is of that blood filled eye. It makes me wince and shake. Last time I saw that it was in the mirror after the cops tazed me or maybe it was the time they massaged my head with a night stick. And all because I called an old lady a bad name...yeh, the old b---h had them beat me up for her. Last time I use e-Harmony to pimp myself to cougars!

they normally change them after a weekend race

the avatar pic is my own eye after loosing a fight with an airbag. what you can't see is that the inside of my eye was filled with blood too. I couldn't see anything at all for a week, and then it took another two months to get the rest of my vision back.

a del sol is only slightly larger then a go kart: hence it doesn't take much for it to stop on a dime.

Everyone has their favorite sites but my favorite place to buy brake products is www.importrp.com. have had good luck with them and the prices are fair. they often offer combination deals if you are buying sets of rotors. best bet is to call them and talk to a rep on the phone to get the best deal.

My track pads typically last 1/2-3/4 of a season. Rotors last 2-3 events, though sometimes as short as one (rain event with standing water, water splashing on red hot rotor = cracked).

Last CMP event we went to we were talking to a guy with an evo.. his rotors were becoming visably cracked.. you could see cracks forming when he got off the track.. pretty cool.. crappy for him though cause he didnt have replacements.. i think those were his replacements lol made it through the whole race though

I just went out to all my cars and ice picked the airbags! Damn, that is nasty. I read about a guy who had run off the road and into a tree, just before he hit he put his arms up in front of his face...he sustained two broken arms, a broken nose and two detached retinas. He lost sight in one eye and lost a major portion of his vision in the other and is permanently disabled. Of course he may have died without the airbags BUT to me losing my sight is close to death. I can't imagine not being able to drive, watch a movie, see a sunset or a sunrise, view porn, iron my clothes, enjoy a custom car show, watch strippers, see if I am going out with a dog or the dog, grope a guy by accident, surf, shoot my guns, comb my hair up in a perfectly straight faux hawk, or vacuum and dust my house.....yeh, airbags can make you wish you were dead...BUT I am glad they worked for you...You did not suffer any permanent damage I hope?

I did, but the permanent damage is more of a long term issue. For now my vision is back to 20/15. Because the impact deformed the inside of my eye I will develop glaucoma when I get older.

The lesson here is make sure at least one of the people in the car stay awake when driving.

Geeez, I guess if that is the worst maybe it will be successfully treatable.Sometimes even impact to the body can cause long term physical muscle-skeletal issues as well that does not show up until way later in life. There is an affliction called spasmodic torticollis dystonia that shows up later in life that is the result of an impact usually to the head. Oddly enough it only appears in those of Northern European descent it has what they call a genetic component so maybe it is not in your genes. But it is no fun and only gets worse with age. We've all had the scare of waking up while driving and wondering how long we had been asleep at the wheel. That is not good either but I don't have to tell you it's not like we can always do anything about it until it is too late.
