TLontheDL
Anybody nervous or ready for the virus attack tomorrow on the 1st?? http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/132464
AccordHEART
Sounds like a bunch of BS. Anti-virus companies probably pay people to do stuff like this so people will get scared and buy their products. Also, if you're stupid enough to get viruses, you probably shouldn't be using a computer anyway.

Xeryon
There are mac viruses and spyware. Quite a bit of it actually. Anti-virus companies really are not the culprit. The problem is generally from rogue nations and developing countries where enterprising individuals create scripts and programs to generate cash. The virus that launches tomorrow uses a windows exploit that was patched back in October. Any Windows user with half a clue is protected as long as they ran their Windows Updates. The problem is that your average user is an idiot and doesn't know what an update is. By Microsoft's own admission only 25% of the legitimate licensed computers in the world that run their software have downloaded and installed the updates. Are you one of the 25% or are you one of the 75%?

There's less mac users which equates to less money to be had, instead, targeting the much more common PC. Most mac users never use anti virus or spyware and never have any problems. Not never sometimes, never never.

Xeryon
As a certified mac tech - yes I see infected apple products on a semi-regular basis. The relative infection rate of a personal apple computer vs a pc is actually similar, there are just considerably less apple computers to be infected. most of the problems with apple products are due to malware and spyware rather than actual viruses though. Obviously, the effort vs potential payout has a big factor in quantity of mac viruses. The computer usage of a mac user trends considerably different then a pc user and that plays a big part I think.. Most macs are owned for productivity and multimedia instead of entertainment. If you are working with your mac you are less exposed then various entertainment venues would be. BTW, this virus is a windows specific virus. If your mac is running xp or vista you can have this wonderful bug come and visit you as well if you are not updated.
