370z VS BMW 135i

Recommended Posts

if i was more worried about price i would go with the z since it would be much cheaper to maintain. if i was less worried about money then aftermarket suspension and rim/tires would go on the bmw. i wasn't as impressed with the 350z before but i'm liking 370z a lot more.

id still rather have the 135i. this comparisson is comparing apples to oranges. one is a sport package(370) while the other is a luxury base model, with the option of an M exhaust for that note, a higher quality interior, M active stability steering that adjusts sensitivity at different speeds, and a larger wheel package..As well as not being a cop magnet like the 370z is.

One big thing to consider here. A few hundreds bucks on nothing more than a tune on the 135i and it's easily in the 12's. That little turbo car unleashes some nice numbers with nothing more than a tune or even a chip. Not only that, but you have more room, more luxury and better performance....and not a much higher price (saw them all over the BMW dealer at 40k even) which isn't much more than the 37k+ for the loaded 370z touring w/ sport package and can easily be optioned to over 40k. 370z looks nice but for me I would easily be driving a 135i home with $500 to put me in the 12's. (Actually I'd get the 335i which is pretty much the same price as the 135i).

they've also tested the 135 vs. the 335 and supposedly for the average/amature driver the 335i is the faster on the track. Reason being is it is a lil more stable than the 135i, which is very twitchy. however once you get hooked on the 135i itll spank the 335i til it gets blisters!

maintenance on a BMW is not cheap. something like a couple grand for a break job on my grandpa's 7 series, ceramic pads and hard rotors that supposedly have to be replaced at the same time. oil change for a hundred bucks, etc. but he always takes his cars to specialists that charge a lot but get it done right.

if i had the choice between the 2 and didn't have to worry about money, then the BMW would be my choice. but if i had the money and any choice, i wouldn't choose either.

the cost of maintenance isnt any more other than the fact it takes 6-7 quarts of oil instead of like 4.5q or w/e the nissan takes. as far as the brakes go...its covered under the 4-year 100k mile warranty. Also, in the way of parts etc. it really isnt much more. all new car parts roughly cost the same. what will get you is the labor charges. for the bmw's there are a few special tools that one needs but those are for big jobs generally anyways. Also specialty bmw repair shops can charge more for work to be had because the majority of the time the owners are pretty well off...make sense?

Plus a 7-series is using monsterous rotors, and probably needs higher performance ones to attempt to bring that boat to a hault. But rotors on a new F350 are going to be aprx. the same size and cost aprx. the same too. Its all relative.

he bought his car before they started offering that warrenty. It now has well over 100k miles and its in pretty good shape. basically if anything wasn't perfect on the car he brought it to some special german car repair guy. i see what you are saying about specialized parts though, and apparently his car had quite a few of them. he said that supposedly because the break pad material was so hard that the rotors had to be replaced at the same time as the pads. i believed because if you mashed the breaks it felt like you could stand on the dash board. he sold the car to my uncle and had a new lexus gs460 (before his house was caught by the so cal fires) and he was paying much less.

who wants the extra power that also comes with bunch of complicated expensive problems lol

Expensive problems like what? BMW's are very reliable cars.....expensive to repair...yes, but if you buy it new then you aren't going to have many...if any problems with it.

even new cars have problems...

maybe it's me, but I've been around new bmw's with lots of problems...usually electrical...

Which would all probably be found and fixed within the first 3 years or 36,000 miles (assuming there warranty isn't longer than that) which means that most people wouldn't be out of pocket any money for common quirks associated with a new car.

Oh...and parts for a new model of sportscar that's been out for a few months (370z) aren't gonna be any cheaper.

well depending if you mean new as in current models i havent heard of anything. the 335i had some trubo and fuel pump issues when it firstt came out but thats been long fixed before thos platform got in the 1-series chasis.

now if your experience with new bmws is the e36 model then yes your correct the electrical systems in the earlier models were junk and that goes for their interiors as well which lover to fall apart.

yes, warranty covers it for free, but once it's after warranty, then you have to pay higher prices than say a much more economy car...

and it's not just the first few years of the car that problems come up...a bad design consequence is very likely to show up much after the warranty is over! The more time goes on and the more miles, we all know that parts wear out and such...

you are right: 370z parts won't be much cheaper either...

I meant "new bmw's" as in after 2003...interior falling apart after just a few years and electrical problems...maybe this is just my experience though...it might be that...

in general though, why would anyone want to pay such high prices...I know cars are a passion, but it doesn't make sense money-wise...I think new out-of-factory cars are a waste of money and so are very luxury cars...cars just depreciate in value so fast!

i've shared the same experiance with the interior. my grandpa's bmw had more interior panels falling off than my civic of the same year, he had the money to have it all fixed though >_<

and i don't think i ever plan on buying a new car just because i loose a huge percentage of its value just by driving the car off the lot

^hehe sooo true with the comparison of civic and bmw of same years lol

I've noticed, comparing the same year civic and same year bmw, that the civic's engine is more efficient heat-wise...I don't know what it is with bmw: they make it so complicated when it could be so simple...lol

honda shouldn't be in the same classification of BMW unless you're talking NSX.

Nissan, maybe..GTR or something. BMW has so many models of cars on so many levels it isn't even funny.
