Ok, ive had a 5hp briggs sitting around for a while. With my new house i need some sorta tractor because im lazy and dont wanna push a mower. So, i started looking at tractor builds and found a power pup, it uses a 5 hp motor, hori shaft matted to a bunch of model a parts... well thats hard to find so i wanna modernize it but dunno what to use. My motor is max 3500rpm and i already have a friction clutch for #35 chain. Now im trying to figure out if i should just run a solid rear axle or diff and a jackshaft, max speed im lookingd for is about 15mph... im thinking some quad or tractor tires from walmart and a gokart axle. But i cant find a good calc to figure out final speed, just ones to tell me what speed i can go, im lazy and dont wanna write the equation.... any help, im thinking roughly 20" back tires.... would a friction clutch handle that and would the chair and rear axl take the geared down torque?

And to add alil more, where the frack do i find good parts? Id kinda like to do a tranny just so i can go super slow if needed( to pull crap outta the ground or to plow the driveway....

lol soo fantastic

i wasnt on drivetrain so i couldnt tell you the rough speed cause i didnt mess with it much.. i know ours should have went 50 and it went 35 so sometimes equations suck

look at go kart sites for parts.. i think we got a lot of stuff from shockwave

well, last night at work i got bored and wrote out the equation and graphed it, it needs a a 9:1 (or 1:9) ratio to get a min speed of like 9 (at clutch engagement of 2300rpm) and max speed of 15 (at max 3500 rpm) i'll be running a jackshaft since yeah... or maybe a trans if i can figure out how to get one dirty cheap...

thats why i directed it at sarah, because i figured most wouldn't get it... hahaha

i cant find a good tranny... or any tranns for that part... i need to find a lawn mower scrap yard...

oh, i totally understand what you are talking about but have zero to contribute. i do enjoy writing retarded responses and reading what you guys discuss in a feeble attempt to expand my knowledge of random crap.

so um, i bought a lawnmower and it totally works. i dont have to know crap to be able to run it, i just turn the key, and the 20 hp kohler fires up, and if it breaks down, theres a place or two that fixes them. awesome stuffs.

(just jealous i cant contribute cuz i dont know jack, carry on.) :)

I gave up on all my crapty riding tractors, sold them for scrap and just use a push mower on my 1.5ac yard. Only takes me a 1.5 hours to mow, vs an hour on the tractor, uses half the fuel and i get my fat ass off the couch.

well, im small but must really suck at mowing... I grabbed my parents push mower and just mowed the back yard, it took me an hour and a half (yeah the grass/weeds were 6-12inches tall) but still!!! My back yard has 3 "dirt" piles that are about 8 foot diameter and 3 foot high, im probably gunna be flatting them but right now i have to get a running start to get the mower over them. Im thinking the previous owner had a kid that liked to jump a bmx bike or something because the grass is kinda warn down into a path from hill to hill making a small track (to small for my quad)

I have a beefy motor, with gear reduction and everything im looking at about 12-15mph, i figured out the gear ratios now but need to figure out how to hook a mower onto the tractor. im thinking a belt to go from horizontal to vertical and run it off the rear wheels, so that when its moving, its mowing. when i stop, it stops... but now i gotta figure out what speed a blade is suppose to spin at :p im guessing 3k because thats what most push mowers are rated at and the blade it attacked right to the motor. but they might be slowed to only like half throttle or something when the handle is all the way down.

You would so much be better off searching out a free chassis and working from something already created. You wouldn't have to use the parts, but having a working example in front of you would be a huge help.

I practically gave away my two at $100 for both of them. There are people giving them away all around central oh.

crap, i cant find a push mover for 75... they want 75 for a broken push and 400 for a rider that they dunno why it wont start. thats why i wanna build one, they want to much for a used/broken one.

People around here was 75 for a push mower that needs a tune up (usually don't have working walk behind feature) or a 400 for a rider they don't know whats wrong with it. So thats why im wanting to build one, because I know i can do it for like 300... which is hell of a lot cheaper than buying a used one that needs work or a new one.

crap, it would take longer to look up the link :p

I had a disease when i was 2 (meningioccemia sp?) that basicly brakes down your vains and artorie walls and then they clog up and pop. that causes all your organs and body parts to get NO blood flow and they start to die. my toes were dead and the docs cut them off. then they started to grow back but straight up (yeah crazy i know) so they removed them again, I also lost 98% of the muscle mass on the front of both my legs (i can't tap my toes because of this, and makes driving hard, i drive with my leg, not my foot) and thats on both legs, im lucky that I only am this far off, the rest of my is all scared up (looks like a burn victom) Most people that survive are brain dead or have such bad organ failure that they live on machines. 12 specialists said I had 2% chance of living and even less of ever walking. Ive had 45+ (lost count) surgeries just for this issue, not counting a broken leg from skiing or dentist crap. My current docs out at mayo clinic say that I will probably need double knee replacement before Im 30... thats why i need a riding mower :p

we have a push mower currently.. the orange one that starts with h or somethin.. but it drives itself so you just walk behind it.. doesnt have much problems with small hills either

but i also dont do yard work.. i used to like gardening but never have time.. my chris mows the yard and does all the hard work

Huscavagna.

The push mower i used today is a john deer and has walk behind but it sucks.

A buddy of mine has a rider that hes selling me for 50 bucks, he said it wont start but ran great last fall.

2%? You survived just to give the doctors crap for cutting your damn toes off all the time.

World is full of some totally messed up crap.

And Sarah, I do hope you will do outdoor work or you will be single soon. SC and it's hotter, drier climate has nothing on Ohio when it comes to maintenance. If you are not shoveling and de-icing you are having to mow the grass every three days this time of year....yes three days and this crap is already 6 inches higher then when i cut it.

I mow once a week... at that starts right after the snow melts. Shovel the drive way, I do it ALMOST every day in the winter. On top of all that I have a small garden and house stuff to work on... like fixing the little crap that i don't like here.

it has been non-stop rain here for nearly two months. we set the all-time record for april rainfall and are easily on track to break the may all time record too.

i do love my garden. i got a crapton of stuff already in the ground this year.

I need to contact the extension office and check out what the up is rated for growing. i may need to actually build a greenhouse....

haha, and how much did you pay for a 20hp electric start kholer?! frack that (probably 800+) and the repairs are retartedly expensive too.

well i got it for 980 at wally world, which was a really good deal cuz they charged me for the cheaper model than the one i bought, which was s'posed to be 1200, i even asked if they were sure cuz i knew better but hey, gotta love stubborn people that think they know better than every one else and have power and control issues... yay.

i bought it 3 years ago, and havent had to do anything to it. Well thats not entirely true, i've put on a new belt and im fixin' to change the oil. then i think im gonna buy some rust stop to stop the minor rust on the deck, then i think im gonna rhino line it after that. really should have done that when i bought it like i wanted to, but im lazy and my yard desperately needed mowed.

i went with a kohler because i have had nothing but problems with the 2 briggs i had prior. lemons? probably. but i tend to stay away from crap that burns me twice. now if honda would just make a riding garden tractor...
