OP: sounds like you may have hit something that damaged the housing but the internals are ok. If you have some skills and tools you could pick up a grinding transmission from a salvage yard or craigslist and exchange the housing and reinstall the transmission. Or just jb weld it and drive it till it dies. In the meantime scour your local resources for a suitable replacement and keep it in the garage just in case your rig job fails.
