d-block97
SOHC VTEC head on a nonVTEC block. is there any advantage to this at all? do alot of people do them?
SolLesHonda
Of course there is an advantage, otherwise nobody would do them. Not worth doing IMO.
..SSR..
Advantage = more power with little work. Disadvantage = none really. Cheap 30hp.
Humphries
good mod if you know what you're doing
gavlang
Advantage = more power with little work. Disadvantage = none really. Cheap 30hp. I've got a 160i Civic '97 (we dont use that EK and HX and SI stuff here in South Africa) how much would all this cost? and why must the intake manifold be taken aswell? cant i use the one from the d-block/? also, wouldnt i need to change the piston heads seeing that the d-series is only 8valve and the SOHC VTEC is 16v? Or am i mistaken and the d series is a 16v and not a 8 valve like i think? Also, what does this increase the maximum rev count to? I see mine iis now maximum 8000 but thats right at the end, past the red line. I see vtecs go to 10000. what will the sohc increase it to?
..SSR..
Head is 150, ECU 75 or so, headgasket 65. Stock intake manifold flows like crap. Some D's are 8 valve and some are 16. You don't need to change the pistons to do this. Stock fuel cutoff is 7,200 RPM.
gavlang
Head is 150, ECU 75 or so, headgasket 65. Stock intake manifold flows like crap. Some D's are 8 valve and some are 16. You don't need to change the pistons to do this. Stock fuel cutoff is 7,200 RPM. What type of v-tec would it be? I heard there's different types. And what engine would the head come from? a B series? Is it a perfect fit? Why call it mini-me though, it sounds crap. I'd call it VTEC-D or D/VTEC or somthing like that. Thanks for your help guys! ..SSR..
D16Y8 or D16Z6. Straight up VTEC. I like to call them LX/VTEC's. Never heard or seen anyone else call them that.
Humphries
i call them G-tec's
SolLesHonda
I like that, the LX VTEC. Except if you said it fast, people would think you said LS VTEC. GTEC is that thing you can put in your car and it records your 0-60mph times and 1/4 mile times.
Humphries
i didnt know that.. GTEC still sounds cooler. i'll have to spread the word about the LX-DX/vtec
gavlang
The whole LX name is not universal coz for example, in South Africa they just call it the Civic 150i or 160i or whatever. No LX stuff. So I prefer VTEC-D. I even made a logo!
Humphries
looks good man.. good job. DTEC would be better

compuvision02
After pricing out motors for a daily driver, I don't see the point in doing the mini-me swap. Why not just pay $500 and get a JDM D15B? JDM BLINGIN!
