theekman Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 i took my car in for emissons and it was rejected because the obd test said my catylitic converter and evaporative conrol systems were not ready. I recently had the check engine light turned off. my question is can i fix these problems myself wit ha scan tool or do i have to bring it to a mechanic and spring 100 just for them to run tests and then find more roblems and make me spend more money? any info would help! thanks you, eric
cmgogo Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 sounds like you didnt run your car for a while before you brought it to the emissions station.

Tubbith Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Use the hand reader to find out what codes the CEL is throwing and fix the problem. Then take it and get the emissions done.
cmgogo Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Yeah basicly what tubbith said. What you failed for was the fact that the ECU had not be able to get a constant reading and therefore could not report back a "Ready" state to the ECU. If you have ECU codes you need to fix them before it will pass, a simple reset will not fix your issues.
