I stumbled upon this forum after wondering how fast this 2.2L s2k is. I used to drive a modded 01 prelude and have street raced a lot in my past. I must say launching a light rear wheel drive car takes a lot more effort and skill. 2 months after i got my car a few of my friends wanted me to run a wrx and a stock altima ser. being very inexperienced with rear wheel drive cars i lost to the altima ser by about 2 car lengths. but what i noticed was in second and third gear i was pulling on him.

so i decied to go back to my friend aka tony the tiger, who taught me how to drive my prelude and this time my s2k. i recently raced the same altima ser car with teh same driver, and i won 3 times in a row with at least 2 cars between us. this car is fast, but you must be some what experienced to expose the cars potential.

and i want to add i live in toronto and we get lots of snow here. my rule of thumb is any car can fair against any weather as long as propers tires are on. I had no problem driving on the snow in my car, and as my only form of transportation. I guess its to each their own.

anyone else from toronto?

Your post was straight. Better than 80% of the threads on here. Plus, you didn't get raped by all the arrogant know it alls on here. Your right, it's definitely all about the driver, especially the launch. I remember about five years ago my buddy beat this dude who had a b16 DOHC VTEC. My friend only had his 91 hb civic si with bolt on's, plus he had a good cam, but he still beat the crx 3 times in a row. The dude in the crx couldn't believe it. He drove home with his tail between his legs. It's all about the launch and knowing your car inside and out.

by no means am i trying to start anything. its a world, there are different opinions and perspectives.

i just think that without the variable (driver), the car is irrelevent. my friend who has been driving manual 5 spd for about 7 months? give or take. i beat him in his 97 SiR while he was driving my s2k, the launch is everything, it dictates your acceleration path. modulating your throttle while varying between friction and bogging (your engine's ability to make power) takes experience. your right, i probably wouldn't beat him in a ford escort (no offense to escort drivers out there)......but there is a huge difference in qtr mile times between the sir and s2k, about full 2 seconds? 20 car lengths.

in my work 2 guys bought the SER, and its a very nice ride. very powerful, very torquey, very comfy, but stiff enough to throw it in the turns. but with the right driver, s2k wouldn't lose. its just the way its built, power to weight ratio is the big difference here. however i do understand why many ppl would think the SER is faster, the torque curve is much more impressing on the nissan. but guys, you are forgetting the laws of physics. i had a few friends that study in an engineering school (specifically physics), that put the race between the SER and the 2005 s2k (mine), down in pure mathematics.....and guess what...........time, weight, and kilojules(energy or hp)and everything else remains constant - and the numbera say the s2k wins by 3 cars or .3 seconds (approx.) in a qtr mile. the problem is that the s2k is extremely light rear end, with a high strung engine (how many LIGHT rear wheel drive cars you know have 9k rpm?). but anyways, this is not what the s2k is designed for, its designed for the track.

im still learning and its pretty fun, but sometimes i really do miss the back seat :)

besides, this can simply be a long winded bias opinion because afterall i am a s2k owner LOL

Congrats on your new ride, I'm sure you'll enjoy it for years to come. Too bad 2006 are the last models, I guess they're coming out with an XGA to replace the S2000. It's due out Spring '07 as an AWD 320+hp hard top.

I'm gonna agree that this car is not made for drag, I've been researching for almost a year now and have tried to launch my '01 as high as 8K. Through time I've realized that the way this car's drivetrain and LSD was designed, it's intentions were on the track and not the strip. There are various threads away from this forum that will give you some insight on that. I guess people are just as successful to acheive the same 1/4 time on a stock S2K launching @ 4K rpm then 8K like motor trend mag did when the car first came out.

However, I wouldn't sweat about hanging with the best of them on street once in awhile. Have fun, and the driver DOES make a difference and you'll only learn your AP1 best over time of it's true potentials. It hasn't been a year yet, but I still am.
