PlastikPaul Posted May 13, 2002 Posted May 13, 2002 What does the "B" in B16A stand for? And can someone explain how Honda classify their engines?
TrueSi Posted May 13, 2002 Posted May 13, 2002 htey are just the names D16Z6 is a 1.6L SOHC VTEC B16A are 1.6L DOHC VTEC B18 are 1.8L DOHC VTEC those are the main ones theres a whole bunch more
PlastikPaul Posted May 14, 2002 Author Posted May 14, 2002 yeah i noe the numbers represent the liters, but what does the "B" itself stand for?
XScarAudio Posted May 14, 2002 Posted May 14, 2002 in general, b is DOHC, d is sohc, h is DOHC, but the vtec/non vtec varies(GSR vs LS, D16y8 ex vs the dx etc.....)
Ali Posted May 27, 2002 Posted May 27, 2002 IIRC the letter donates block type and family, the number is engine capacity and the second letter is derivative ie VTEC/non-VTEC/16v/8v etc The B letter is also used on the SOHC non VTEC CR-V which is B20. Makes me wonder if you could take the B18C head and put it on the CR-V block for a genuinely scary car!!! Others i know: F20A is the S2000 K20 is the new iVTEC 2 lite in the CTR, ITR and RSX-R. H24 will appear in the next Accord Type R.
XScarAudio Posted May 28, 2002 Posted May 28, 2002 yes, you can put the b18 head on the b20 to make a CRvtec Monster!@# hella torque on that one!
TrueSi Posted May 28, 2002 Posted May 28, 2002 you bet those crvtec have big amounts of torque and witht he right pistons they create the same amount of horse power
Toda Party Posted August 17, 2002 Posted August 17, 2002 IIRC the letter donates block type and family, the number is engine capacity and the second letter is derivative ie VTEC/non-VTEC/16v/8v etc The B letter is also used on the SOHC non VTEC CR-V which is B20. EGRacer Posted August 18, 2002 Posted August 18, 2002 ummm not really on the D16Z6 being a SOHC Vtec. some of the D16Z6 or sohc vtec because my notor says D16Z6 and is a DOHC w/o vtec
XScarAudio Posted August 22, 2002 Posted August 22, 2002 must be a different cover zc, b/c the d16z6 is most def listed as a SOHC .16 liter vtec that came in the 5th gen Si and EX producing 125 hp. i think it was avail in a del sol also. the valve cover is smaller than a dohc
CRG7 Posted August 23, 2002 Posted August 23, 2002 as xscaraudio said, the d16z6 is sohc w/ vtec, 125 hp, and was available in the EXs and the del Sol Si models.

XScarAudio Posted August 23, 2002 Posted August 23, 2002 prolly a b18b(older teg engine) or the older b16 pre-vtec days
Toda Party Posted August 24, 2002 Posted August 24, 2002 zc = dohc non-vtec 88-91Si16-1.6i 88-91CRX Si16-1.6i (Asian specs) 90-93 Integra LS 90-93 Integra RS ZC D16A8/A9 1595cc 4 cyl, 16 valve DOHC 9.:1 c.r. PGM-FI (MPFI) 137 bhp @ 6800 Redline: 7200 rpm 108 lb-ft @ 5700
