yeah, its backfiring and spooling the turbo..... or its a stutter box

 

they sound almost the same (one is firing on half the cylinders, and the other is combusting in the exhaust manifold/turbo. the latter of the two isn't good for your turbo.

it is sort of a rev limiter in the fact that it changes timing, so pretty much it sparks when the exhaust valve is open on 2 cylinders, or cuts the spark to two cylinders, so when it goes out of the head it will burn.
