MisterDavid Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Recently my accord has a very loud vibration when its sitting in idle. Even if I turn the A/C or put the car in neutral it still vibrates pretty heavily. There isn't anything major wrong with the engine, everything is new/clean/refilled. I'm wondering if the motor mounts are starting to give out causing the engine to vibrate way more than normal. Possible? How long do the mounts typically last?
Xeryon Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Mounts are just rubber inside of a metal casing. They have no 'lifespan'. Environmental variables likely play the greatest role in wearing them out: Such as heat, salt and humidity. Problems under the hood can hasten their wear as well: Fluid leaks can expose the rubber to a number of things that can damage the rubber and metal. A persons driving style also plays a role as more aggressive driving will cause greater strain.
James Matteu Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Don't forget ozone. Ozone destroys plastics, rubbers, etc.; it is an extremely corrosive gas.
Turtlehead Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I would start by looking at the exhaust system (doughnut gaskets, heat shields etc.). Try hitting it with a rubber mallet or your fist and it you get vibrations start by fixing those and see if that fixes you problem.
