I remember on my 1986 Honda Accord LX 12v 2.0 liter A20 running CVCC with a standard transmission; the distributor had a vaccum advanced ignition control. For me, this meant that adjusting the timing was done by using a "timing light" and rotating the distributor either clockwise or counter-clockwise.

Your distributor may be different, so reply back with the type of ignition and fuel system you have. Perhaps giving the trim level will shed light on whether you have PGM-Fi or CVCC; which could mean you have a solid state Ignition Control Module or a vaccum advanced ignition control, respectively.
