ok...

so my brother's girlfriend has a automatic 1998 nissan altima...

and the shifter is broke...

like it gets stuck...and there is a white wire that is able to come out...but i told her not to touch that...

and you dont hafta press the button to shift it....

she bought the car like this...besides the fact of it getting stuck...

and i was wondering if you guyz/gurlz could lead me in the right direction on how to replace it...maybe with a aftermarket shifter...

like maybe a website that explains how to get automatic shifters off...

i didnt know where else to go...all of my friends do not know howta do it...or never had thought about it...

so i thought yall might knnoww....

if someone could help me out just a lil' bit that would be the best thing ever!

thanxx

Hey, East Hartford, nice.

Anyways, its not too active right now, probably because of the holidays.

Your best bet is to do a search in the upper right corner through old threads.

Either that or google it.

is it a wire or is it plastic? that wire could be part of a neutral saftey switch.

you said the button doesn't work on it anymore. some of the older cars used a plastic "rod" to engage and disengage the lock to keep the shifter from moving out of park.

You know how if you go to pull it out of park your supposed to push the button in to mave the shifter? if that "rod" is broken then the shifter may be able to move when ever you want it to.
