Blizzard
I've got a 96 DX, which has the D16Y7 motor. Is a head swap with a Y8 or Z6 worth it? I don't plan to do much else to the car after the head swap, if I even follow through with it.
mycarsux
No, just buy a big cam. Y7 heads have same ports as a Y8 and same chambers as a Z6. VTEC is pointless when there's so much potential.
cranny
hilarious , lol. vtec is better dude. swap a Y8 head , than throe a cam in it.

Blizzard
How much of a project is putting a bigger cam in? I'm not exactly the most experienced wrench-turner, and Honda's are new to me. I've always been a Subaru guy - Blasphemy?
cranny
would take about an hour to put a cam in either the Y8 or Y7 head.
pinkb18crx
Mini-Me's as the swap is referred to are junk. I have only seen a handful be reliable. Just throw a bigger cam in the y7 head and call it a day. A camshaft alone however is not going to net you big gains, maybe 7-15hp. If you want the vtec function then make sure you pull the oil jet from top of the block or youll be popping motors on a regular basis. Vtec is over rated!! pinkb18crx
Dude do some research!! Thats all im going to respond to you with from now on. There is a oil jet on top of the block that allows oil to pass into the head, remember vtec is operated by OIL, non vtec motors dont need the extra oil passage. Would you like a pic of what im talking about, id be more then happy to school you some more! http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=554053 please read below #5 Thank you!!
