onthefloor
Hey im new at all this engine stuff im mostly an exterior type of guy. Heres my question I have a 99 civic dx coupe and i have headers and a cold air intake. What is the difference between just the muffler and the whole catback exhaust? And is it true if you change the catalytic converter to a Racing catalytic converter you will increase the horsepower?
CleanGSR
First of all you have a header, not headers. Second, adding a catback system will replace all of the piping from the catalytic converter on back to the muffler with a manderal bent, larger piping. Just changing the muffler doesn't replace any of the piping. Replacing the cat will increase your horsepower some but it will also make your exhaust a lot louder and change the tone. I have a straight through cat and don't like how much louder it is and it's not worth the extra couple of horsepower in my opinion.
