No sound to rear speakers

I have a 2003 Accord DX that did not come with rear speakers installed. I bought a couple of cheap 6x9s to install as a weekend project, but have had problems. I got them mounted okay, but I don't get any sound from them.

 

On each side there is a connector next to the speaker hole. I bought some Metra speaker harnesses that fit those stock connectors, but after connecting the wires I got nothing. I double checked the stock stereo to make sure the fade was sending sound to the rear and it was. I swapped the wires just in case I had mixed them up, and still nothing.

 

Does anybody have first hand knowledge of this problem? Do stock stereos from DX models that don't come with rear speakers still support rear speakers? Does Honda ever route wires without connecting them into the stereo?
