struts need replacing?

first my daughter said I had a leak from my car when I visited. I took the car to  my regular mechanic.  I have used this place many years, but the manager recently changed.

At the first of the  year they told me all my belts and something else needed to be replaced.  to the tune of almost $2000.    now they are saying there is no leak, but my struts bushings? are about gone. My son-in-law thinks they may be going by a maintenance schedule as the car is just under 60,000 miles.   the car is a 2012.   any advice for an old woman?
