You have to locate the data link connector. I believe it's located under the glovebox on the passenger side. (Look for a green connector with a brown and black wire).

Once you find the connector you could use a paper clip to jump the terminals. (Stick one point of the paper clip on one side of the connector, then stick the other point on the other side of the connector.)

Make sure the car is off or you will blow a fuse. Instead have the key turned to accessory. Once you correctly jump the connector terminals the check engine light will begin to flash. You have to count the number of flashes so you get the two digit error code.

 

You will see a series of flashes (which is the first digit) and then a pause, followed by another series of flashes (which is the second digit of the error code). Once you obtain the two digit error code(s) it relates to a certain malfunction/emission problem within the car.
