“Recommend Replacing Timing Belt Tensioner

I took my 2016 Accord in for an oil change at 70k miles. recently I heard an unusual loud screeching noise when starting the car recently. Heard it twice but it’s been running perfectly. For peace of mind, I asked them to check the belts.
During checkout I was told the mechanic found a small leak at the timing belt tensioner. And the cost would be $1600 to replace it. When I asked what would happen if I waited, I was told the engine could die. When I asked what he thought, I got the typical response “I don’t know”.  So, does anyone have any thoughts on this?
