1993 Accord SE Over Drive

I have a 1993 Accord SE, 4spd auto w/overdrive. I'm curious what controls the overdrive - vacuum maybe? Mine is working backwards, essentially. When overdrive should kick in (say, 60 mph), it doesn't - stays in 4th. When I depress the accelerator a little, you can feel the o/d kick in, and the rpm's drop around 300 or so. stabilize speed (no longer accelerating at all) it kicks out, rpm's jump back up.

I am wondering if this is electronically controlled, or maybe vacuum. It actually worked correctly for about a day, rather recently (I've had the car for over 6 months..)

Any thoughts or suggestions would be very very appreciated.
