Connermlt
I have an automatic 1988 Honda Accord LX with 198k miles on it. Lately the engine has been dieing when im not accelerating; the first time it died i was going 30 down a hill without foot on gas and it just stopped with no chugging. Now it has been dieing when im sitting at stop lights etc. I have a feeling that it may be the pcv valve. Does anyone know where the pcv valve is located, is it under the carburetor? James Matteu
Wrong, Positive Crankcase Ventalation is not related to idle control. Remove the Air Cleaner Assembly and fix the busted vaccum line(s). You will probably find it on the right side where the air cleaner assembly has a peice of metal that sticks down and can cut into those lines. I know, bad design, but hey, vaccum line is like 4 cents per foot.
Connermlt
but if its the vacuum line, wouldnt the car not run for very long? i was able to start it back up after it died and drive for about 5 miles home.
James Matteu
When it is a vaccum leak, the car will cut off or stumble when your foot is off the gas at a stand-still. As long as your moving, or your foot is on the gas, the motor will stay on.
