jfksw67
I have had a problem starting my car approximately 8 times in the last 3 months. It turns over normally but it appears to not be getting fuel. After a period of time (appx an hour) it will start normally again. Then I may not have a problem for few weeks or longer . I was told it might be my fuel filter. I have 35,000 miles on the car. Do I risk taking it back to dealer and getting stuck with a hugh bill? I consulted a mechanic and he said he could not fix the problem without seeing it when it happens. Because it will eventually start...I haven't needed to tow it. Any suggestions??? kalki
Maybe get your fuel injection system cleaned. I had a similar problem on a Nissan, but not as frequent as you do. This started once I replaced the fuel filter filter purchased from an auto parts store. I then replaced it with dealer's filter and the same problem occured once more. After that, I never had this problem.
Jeff405
I had a similar problem, but it was on an 89' Accord. Anyways I replaced the fuel filter and that didn't work, next I replaced the fuel pump and haven't had a problem since then. IMO I would try the fuel filter first, since its probably cheaper and easier.
carta79
If your thinking about taking it to a dealer there was an ignition recall on 97+ Honda Accords. Everything is free of charge and you get a new ignition switch for free. I don't know if you have done this already. You shouldn't be having problems with fuel filters or pumps after 35,000 miles. jfksw67
I had already had the ignition switch in the recall replaced by the dealer. As a matter of fact, the problem began after they installed the ignition switch. I began thinking that might just be my problem....so I contacted the dealer and of course, they explained that the new switch would have no bearing on my starting problems. I took the car in and had them check the switch. They told me I needed a new battery (car had original battery ) so I gave the dealer the ok to install a new one. Although, my car would turn over normally and certainly seem to have electrical power when starting.......my problem seems to be fixed at this point. Whether it was the recall switch or battery, I don't know....but am very happy everything seems to be working fine now.
carta79
Glad to see you got the problem fixed. I don't know what the battery had to do with it if it was operational but hey whatever works.
jfksw67
Uh, oh! ! The same starting problem that I had last summer is happening AGAIN!! It never happened in the winter....only in the summer. Same situation as last summer, car cranks but won't turn over. The dealer doesn't seem to have a clue as to the problem. I am told they need to see it when it won't start. But before I can have it towed, it starts!! I love my car...but this is driving me nuts!!
