Question on engine know

Recommended Posts

Ok. So I have read many of times that someones honda is having like octane knock and all that. I know what the knock and eveyrthing means, but why does it happen, and then higher octane gas fixes it. Just want a general idea. Thanks guys.

Octane knock is detonation...which is bad. Lower octane gas burns at a lower temperature. If it's igniting inside your engine, before it's supposed to...that's bad. Increasing the octane raises the ignition temperature...no more knock.
