alf
well all i know is b16 is a 1.6 liter engine and b18 is a 1.8 liter. as far as the letters after 16 and 18 (ex:b18c1 or b16a) i have only just heard of them. then theres h22 for the prelude and b20 for the crv-vtec. noccahcrx
there is no serious formula to reading engine codes. they are on every type of motor ever made. as time goes on, engines become more advanced and various and the codes sometimes become more complex. if you look @ the old ford 351, it was made in either cleveland, or windsor, hence the351w, or the351c. but b as in b16 stands for a dual cam block used in quite a few honda motors. the a1, a2, c1, c5, and so on, stand for the pistons, rods, crank, and head used in it. this is also why you see many nissan engines with sr20. itis the same block used many different ways. sr20, sr20det, so on.
