94delsol-s
I have a D15B7 engine in my 94 del sol s, and i need a new more powerful engine to compete with my friend's 86 SVO and my other friends 01 GT. I was looking at a K20A. Those i heard are only available in Japan, and i was wondering if i could get one sent here to America if i bought one online for a decent price. Is this a good idea for and engine swap? xxscaxx
k20's are from the RSX type S. you can buy the full swap from hmotorsonline. its not cheap though, so unless your pocket goes deep you should look into a different swap.
94delsol-s
well i am working on getting the money, i do not intend to be able to do much at all anytime soon, i am broke. just give me the website or tell me another engine that will work just as well and will be cheaper. The reason i picked that motor was that it has a high redline, good HP for a 4cyl, and good torque, these are alot better that the stock D15B7 motor i have. D15B7: 102 HP @ 5900 98 ftlbs @ 5000 redline @ 6800
xxscaxx
i know, i feel your pain, i had the d15 in my sol too. i swapped in a b16a SiR II and turboed it (selling it). Since you are limited in funds, just save up your money and go for like a b18c1 (gsr) or a b16a SiR II. it also depends if your going to extend your plans and possibly go turbo or N/A. you could go like most people will tell you with a b18b (LS integra) swap and turbo it, but i really dont like ls engines. my B16a swap cost 2500 and the turbo kit around 1300 and my car can keep up with my friends mid 12 second evo (like 2 car lengths behind, not bad). check out www.hmotorsonline.com for engines, you can view the prices there. if your patient enough and can save your money, the k swap would be insane. i just think its too much money to bother with. i did see a post on h-t though with a k20 del sol that ran a best of 12.9 stock... id look for it but its 4 in the morning and im tired. BigBirdSucks
a friend of mine has a K20-R swapped Sol. actually, it's the first one EVER done. it's a lot of work and money.
xxscaxx
thats sick. i saw the one i posted above there and some green one with the k20 in it. the guy said he ran 12.9, with it all stock (except with exhaust and k pro). pretty sick.
94delsol-s
thanks for the website for the motor, but on this other website i found that gave me the engine specs, it said that the K20a has 220HP and 206ftlbs of torque. www.hmotorsonline.com says that the K20a has 220Hp and 156ftlbs of torque. xxscaxx said that the motor was from the RSX type S but the website said it was from the RSX type R, so do they have the same motor or is it different slightly? 94delsol-s
I know that my D15B7 is slow, but i got into a race today and i beat my friend. He was in his 86 V6 ranger. When the light went green we went and i kicked his ass bad by like 4 car lengths. That is the first race i won with my car, I have raced my friends GTi and was beat by half a car length, i raced my friends SVO and he gave me the break and i had him through 1st and 2nd, but when i hit third my ratios went way long and he blew by me. Spacemonkey71
I've seen a K20 in the flesh and that is one BIG engine for a 'sol. He had to do some MASSIVE front end suspension work to support it. A big-ass sack of money didn't hurt either. There's a little something I learned when I swapped a B18C1 into my sol Si..... front end weight (and that this kind of swap will run you about $6K-$7K after everything is said and done). You wouldn't think it would be that heavy, BUT the consequences are pretty serious. People will tell you it's only a "little" heavier than a B16, but within 3 weeks of the swap I had completely blown the 2 front Tokico Illumina struts + Neuspeed Sport springs. I put the little guy on the scale at a track and it rang in at 2730 lbs (with less than 1/8 tank of gas). That's a bit more than the 'sol S, Si, and VTEC trim. About 200-400 lbs more. And that makes a BIG difference when you're slicing down mountain roads, don't have the ABS brakes that came on the VTEC del sol, and then you hit a little patch of sand in a corner............SKID!!!!!!!! and then SPLAT !!!!! right into old Mr.Oak tree and then down the side of a mountain and into a boulder >_< The 'sol is totalled, so I'm getting another one to play with i guess it worked out ok in the end b/c 5th gear was really starting to slip and grind and I didn't want to replace the tranny. I'll take the $9K the insurance company is offering and have some more fun on a new project

I'll take the $9K the insurance company is offering and have some more fun on a new project just by your first sentence alone, I can tell you're complete BULLcrap. you don't have to do any suspension mods AT ALL to get a K20 into a del Sol. in fact, the K20 weighs a few lbs. LESS than B series motors. a B18C1 should weigh about the same as a del Sol VTEC's B16A3. a B18C1 swap won't cost anywhere near $6-7K. my engine is much meaner than a B18C1 and it didn't even cost me $6-7K. a Sol with an H22 won't even weigh 2700 lbs. you probably blew shocks and wrecked your car because you drive like a fracktard. not all del Sol VTECs have ABS either. mine doesn't, and I do just fine. no insurance company is going to give you $9K for any del Sol. YAY for a post that is complete bullcrap!!

Can you please give me the link to your insurance company? I have 3 cars, and if they're giving up 9k for a del sol, I'm insuring my all my cars through them. Do you think they'll cover my skateboard, too? I bet I could get like $300 for that crap.
Spacemonkey71
"fracktard" wow. That's good. Very good. It shows true literary genius and a thought process that I can never hope to measure up to. It should be applied to the halls of scholars and masters. I want to grow up and be as smart as you. And clever. Very clever. And, it's apparent that there must be some geographic anomaly there are no K-series 'sols ANYWHERE on the planet except for Florida or Kentucky, so I guess that blue one I saw in Atlanta must have transported me to somewhere outside the known universe. Since you're a god, and you know everything can you give me directions? ....and insurance: yeah, the little lizard is cute, but people with real jobs and money use other carriers. I have State Farm. I guess that check and the bank deposit slip must have been bullcrap too. They paid my car as if it had 50K miles on it b/c that was the engine miles. Perhaps I prayed to you, god, and you saw fit to bless me. But I'm not sure if they can insure people with godlike intelligence such as yourself, but you already know that since you know all and see all and everyone else is bullcrap. I want to be just like you. I envy your literary mastery, your mechanical aptitude, your clever phrases. Men want to be you, women want to be with you, children want to grow up like you. You are "the penultimate crap" to which no one may hold a candle, lest they be smote down. I bow in your presence. Here's another clever idea, not nearly as clever as "fracktard", but it's may have merit: Say something helpful. Impart some of your godlike wisdom upon us lowly spirits. Oh, there's this thing called "math". You have to get past the 6th grade, where they teach words like "fracktard" to understand it, but here's an example for you to follow along: * '00 B18C1 Engine w/ 20K miles (located, pulled, packed, and shipped in 1 week) =$4,000 (engine, ecu, tranny, axles, etc...). This was in '02 so you can get it for less now. * Shop time and labor. Living in a 2nd floor condo didn't give me alot of room to pull and re-install an engine. So, being a lowly mortal, I had a shop do the work and I helped out so I could learn a little. I know this would have been unhelpful for you since you know all things automotive and have "the knack", but lowly "fracktards" like to ask questions and figure things out ~$1,000 * Those extras like a new cat-back exhaust, coil overs, a new header, rebuilding an axle (one got damaged), fabricate some hoses ~$1,000 A+B+C=$6,000 ...... hmmm...... I know, oh lord, that I have not your godlike intelligence, but that seems to add up. But I'm just a "fracktard" with a degree from Georgia Tech. Perhaps your uber-genius would be better served by imparting your infinite wisdom to a "fracktard" and others in this lowly world who are not supermechanical automotive genius', all knowing, all seeing, and clever ( yes, oh so clever) through the use of stone tablets or burning bushes. I hear they're quite effective. We post here to pass along information that we know, ask questions, talk about what happened to us, what we heard about, read about (assuming you read), etc... It's called sharing and someone must have pissed on your candycane on the playground when you were 4 because you seem to have missed that part of human interaction. And yet you are so clever.... Try saying something helpful instead of showing everyone how smart, svelte, and clever (yes, oh so clever) you are. Perhaps the moderator will give you your own personal column that you can write and impart all your wisdom down to the lowly "fracktard".

BigBirdSucks
good god, just give it a rest. bbs knows his crap, your not gonna make yourself sound any less stupid. thanks. I just like how it took him over a month to retort. this magical K20 del Sol in atlanta....that's odd. I've not heard one thing about it or seen pictures or anything...and I'm on A LOT of del Sol sites. as for the insurance issue. insurance companies don't base your mileage on your engine. they base it on chassis miles. there's no way to prove how many miles an engine has on it. as for you questioning my knowledge of Hondas, I never said I knew everything there is to know, but I do know quite a bit. I do share my knowledge on this site, as well as other sites. I also correct people like you who think they know everything. for the record, I drive a B series del Sol. in fact, my B series del Sol would monkey whore your B18C1 del Sol if you still had it. it sucks that you had to ram it into a tree and blame it on "poor handling".
