bitrate conversions...

If you have a smaller bitrate file, converting it to a higher bitrate file will not increase the sound quality I don't believe. You need to start out with a higher bitrate first and then drop it down to what you want.

The only reason I can see why you would want to do this conversion, is to fool somebody into thinking the quality is better than it really is.

Where are you getting your originals and why do you need to convert them? I'm just curious.

Yes, Nero is for burning CD's and DVD's.

I'm still not following. What exactly are you trying to do? Not sure what a firewall has to do with mp3 bitrate conversions or the two computers being different speeds.

Maybe if you could describe what you are trying to do. :)

old computer = 48 Megs of Ram, 8x CD-Rom, 200 MHz Pentium, 2Gig HD. It's the only computer that has an internet connection. While my other computer has 128 Megs of Ram, CD-R/W, 900 MHz Athlon, 40Gig HD, including a 'rip' version of Easy CD Creator 5 Plat. and Windows XP (ripped also). D/l .mp3s on the old computer and trying to transfer them to the new computer.

oh yeah, i downloaded a 256 bitrate .mp3s and lowered the filesize (which mean i lowered the bitrate). when i raise the bitrate back to the original, the quality sucks ass.

i dont kow about bitrate conversions so i wasnt sure. but with nero i can do a lot to edit and change music. i've made songs louder, increases bass (or treble and midrange) at certain frequencies, added chorus and echo effects and more. there's a lot you can do, so i just thought maybe it could change the bitrate too. oh well :)

Ok,

You need to figure out a way to transfer stuff from the old to the new computer.

- You could get 2 network cards, 2 patch cables and a cheap hub and setup a small network to transfer over files.

- You could get 2 network cards and no hub and get a crossover cable and connect them directly together.

- You could get a wireless setup of the above connections.

- You could pull out your CD burner and stick it in the slow computer and burn the mp3's and then bring the burner back over and transfer them that way.

- You can pull the HD out of the slow computer and stick it in the fast one and copy the files from HD to HD.

- You could get an external zip drive.

If you think that you will have both of these computers for a while, I would suggest doing the first network setup above. Wouldn't be too expensive and it would be a nice permanent setup.

Let me know if you have any questions.

yeah, that will happen, if you lower the bitrate it will discard the info that makes it a bigger file, so if you tried to convert back it doesn't have any way of accessing that data. Your best bet is to just keep the files at the larger bitrate and enjoy the higher quality music... In my opinion 160 bit is my fav. cuz its still small and the quality doesn't get much better

as for transferring your data from one comp to the other I would just put the hard drive from the old in the new computer and do a strait transfer... but if you want a lasting network get a hub and connect them... that way you can share internet on them too in case there are fights for the computer in your place
