B20boy
I've planned to have a b20b blokc for my b18c5... i've heard that the most this engine can rev is 8k rpm only.... I just wanna know if this statement is true??
EGRacer
the only reason that happens is because of the ecu.
hondafreak
so the ECU limits the maximum RPM to approx. 8k RPM?
TypeOne
You can get a chipped ECU...you can set your rev limiter anywhere you want. OR You can get a VTEC ECU like a GSR or Type R and that will solve your problems as well. Just make sure you've got the right OBD. Peace
BigBirdSucks
just make sure you build it enough to be able to rev that high.
Mercutio
Im not sure if it worth all the trouble. A B18C5 is a plenty good engine in and of itself. Frankensteining it might not bring that much brawn to bear.
..SSR..
Get good rod bolts (ARP) and the bottom end is good for 10,500 RPM max. Would I trust the stock rods no, but they will work for a few times at that high of an RPM. It really isn't worth it.
Mercutio
So new bolts helps for higher revs? Wouldn't the head possibly blow if it wasn't built? Or maybe lose a piston out the hood?
..SSR..
Heads don't blow. The B series VTEC heads can hold 8,500 RPM for 24 hours +/-. If he did throw a rod, it would go through the block. I've never seen a Honda shoot a piston through the head.
S14Silvia
its really hard to throw a rod through the block, my friend threw a rod in his type r and only required resleaving and one new rod, and one new piston, or at least thats what he told me
..SSR..
90% of all throen rods in Hondas I see are through the block.
Mercutio
Wow, that kinda validates my friends story. He said he was driving through montana at like 6500 rpms for about 13 hours straight. Didn't overheat or anything. He has a 92 HB Si.
optional187
i drove at full boost doing about 120mph chilling in 5th and killed one of my intercooler piping connectors...that was fun.

If you buy new pistons and rods it doesn't change your redline. I could have built my head on my d16z6 I had and i could have rev'd to 9000 rpm's no problem on my stock bottom end. A different ecu can raise your redline but you better make sure if you have a stock head even with the new ecu not to go much over what your rev limiter was at before so you dont float your valves!!!
