Ajlepisto
Im new to the s2000's. New the the forum too, but Ive been looking for a nice s2000 for a while now, and I have been wondering... Are there any good years to get? You know, some cars have more flaws in certain years etc. I cant afford a new 2.2l so I will probably end up with a 2000-2001 S2000 with probably around 30k miles. I have to get rid of my GTI first. ;) Thanks.
Mercutio
I hear vortech makes a nice supercharger once you've got the S2K...
S14Silvia
the first year of production will usually have more flaws then others, although they have been few and far between with the s2000. i would look for a low miles 01 or 02. as for the vortech.. yeah go for it if you dont mind having less power then stock until like 7000 rpm >_<
Ajlepisto
ya I think by the time I get the s2000 and maybe a nice CF hardtop, im gonna be out of the modding for a while. Then if anything, its gonna be wheels and tires. Maybe swaybars, etc, but I dont need horsepower. And no offense but I hate the open can style sound that comes from many Honda tuning companies. Are there any exhausts that are quiet that are made for Hondas? Im not calling people ricers, but its almost as if (not knowing too much about Hondas) all the exhaust companies make large bore exhausts that just make tons of noise. S14Silvia
first off a carbon fiber hardtop is as much as a factory optional hardtop >_< exhausts developed for the s2000 by actual honda tuning companies such as mugen or comptech sound really nice, not that horrible sound that the ricers get when they put a universal muffler on with "custom" piping. jdm exhausts sound nice if you want to have jdm bling like me with my dd
Ajlepisto
good to know. All I meant was, after forkin over the approx. 20k its gonna cost me for the car+insurance, better tires, SSR competitions, and performance driving school, im not gonna have the money left over to start a real project. plus I would like it to be as reliable as it can be. Balance is what im after, not really sheer power. Thanks for the feedback, I think I remember Comptech in a Road and Track reveiw of 4 bangers. CRG7
2000-2001, being the first years made, had a few problems. most common was various problems with the trans... plus they have the plastic rear window, which i'd imagine is a PITA. as for an exhaust, if you're looking for something a little quieter, APEX'i has the World Sport available for the s2k. S14Silvia
why swap? its just bored out a little, you can buy the pistons, rods, and crank if you need it from honda, that'd be a hell of a lot cheaper
Ajlepisto
why swap? its just bored out a little, you can buy the pistons, rods, and crank if you need it from honda, that'd be a hell of a lot cheaper or just be happy with the 2.0l I would. No use swapping, it's not a car designed to be powerful, it's designed to be harmonic.
..SSR..
It's not bored out, it has a longer stroke. It sounds like you want it to handle. I'd just get some good tires (stock size wheels but wider), good brake pads, and the driving school as you said.

HondaBro
First year production cars are usually nightmares a few years down the road. Look at the 350z as a good example.
