olinaficionado
Hey guys, I have heard that it is not good to put a turbo on anything under a 8 cyl. But I have seen civic's turboed all the time. So what is up with this? If I get a civic, I want to totally modify it. I want it to go fast and a turbo seems like a good option, but will it kill my car? EGRacer
no u car will be fine but u might wana have ur head and block built up to handle the turbo. just a thought
XScarAudio
many non-8cyl cars come stock with turbos ie: DSM's(eclipse/talon/non usdm lancers), toyota supra's, dodge daytonas, subaru's, nissan skylines, rx7s..etc
0verb00st
yeah, the stock civic engine can handle small amounts of boost. if you're really serious about performance then it's best to upgrade the internals. and you will need to ugrade the fuel pump and injectors for any FI setup. Trepid
ok, back on track, I am gonna boost my civic but it won't be for a while, I want to put a good amount of pressure in it so I am gonna save up for a b18C-5 swap then add a turbo... until then not much is getting done to my car Oh, and its not adviseable to boost your stock civic engine, the engine can't handle much of a turbo so you would either have to get a weak turbo or do a swap then turbo. XScarAudio
stock internals are good to about 6-7 psi. here's a great site for turbo'd civics: turbo d16
SBZ
Theres a guy living just down the road from me whos running a hybrid turbo on his civic v-tec.He's boosting 0.8 bar (which I think is alot higher than 6-7 psi) on stock internals. He's been running it like that for a little over a year.Hasn't been taking it easy either,he races that car most illegal events he can which is like 3 times a week.the car is making 280HP,and is very fast! Trepid
He prolly has the Si which can handle more boost on the stock internals

TurboDSM
the reason your cars cant handle as much boost as cars that come turbocharged from the factory is because you have higher compression pistons(for the most part, other factors contribute). im not sure but you would also probably need bigger injectors and a fuel computer too because it will probably lean out when you push all that air into the engine. and before you turbo charge any car, or start playing with the boost on already turbo'd cars, get yourself a boost gauge and an egt gauge.
