jaypapes12
I recently took my car to the shop to get an inspection and after leaving, I noticed that something was leaking from under the car. The next day, I when I turn the car on and let it run for a little a white smoke comes from the engine ( front left if you're looking at the car) that smells like burning rubber. When I accelerate, the smoke increases & the engine light runs about 45% between hot and cold. I made a mile drive this morning and before I got to the destination, the engine temperature was way too high. Anyone know what this piece is and what I could do to fix it??It wont let me upload the images I took but any help would be beneficial. Thanks in advance! jaypapes12
I assume the shop wont take responsibility for it...or just charge me whatever for it. Was hoping to troubleshoot this one myself and solve the problem with minimal cost... here is a link to pictures i took. sorry their rotated to the right. http://www.driveaccord.net/forums/showthread.php?p=1368265#post1368265 Edited June 13, 2013 by jaypapes12
jaypapes12
to be more clear, the smoke is coming from the top of the black canister in the center of the picture that has the line running into the top of it possibly the evap vent valve?!?!? Jeff Collision
If you see white smoke coming out of the tailpipe, that smoke means that your car has a leaking cylinder-head gasket or a cracked head gasket. Thick white smoke, possibly accompanied by a sickly sweet odor, can be a sign that coolant is leaking into the cylinders. If the problem is a leaking head-gasket cylinder you will see white smoke, because the faulty gasket is allowing air and fuel to enter the cooling system. As this mixture burns, white smoke is produced and exits through your tailpipe.
Xeryon
Yes Jeff, but he said the smoke is coming directly from under the hood. Given the obscure description and the ambiguous photos this one is going to have to go to a shop. In my opinion there isn't enough info for people not in front of the car to help with this.
