ThatOneGuy
This is my first post on this site and what not. So here goes nothing, lol. I am going to be purchasing a 98 Honda Civic coupe Si soon. My budget as of now is 3,500 for the car(too much/too little?), and whatever is left from 5,500 on modifications. I don't know much about cars and how they work, but i've always been into them. I just haven't really had the oppurtunity to learn and i figured it would be a great oppurtunity to do so. I have a few questions though, and i figured why not ask them here. 1. Where should i start with modifcations (exterior, interior, engine, things like that, and what should i change, suspension, engine, stuff like that) 2. Where should I go to learn things i don't already know (install wise and fixing problems with the car) 3. An engine swap is imminent, just a matter of time. What engine should i get, and how much would it cost to purchase the engine, and how much to get it installed professionally? 4. Best place to purchase parts? (Located in Cincinatti, Ohio currently) 5. What should I avoid doing at all costs? What i'm looking for from this build is about 250-300 horsepower. (I will add more to the budget as time goes on until i get it to where i want it to be, this is just a start for what I hope to be the begining of a new hobby.) I want a 1/4 mile car out of this, which hopefully is what i will have at the end of the next few years. Sorry about the length, i appreciate all help though. James Matteu
With the money you have now, buy the car and keep your money to fix any issues the previous owner may have neglected.
ThatOneGuy
i was going to have it get looked over by a mechanic after i buy it, see what i need to do. Once i get all the basic stuff taken care of, where should i start modification wise?
Mando Delgado
I agree with James, on this. Buy the car, and save your money and only spend it on what needs to be fixed.

I mean you could do cosmetic details( i.e exterior work = lights, fogs, exhuast, rims, etc) just depends on what you want to go for ya know? hit me up for questions! Not like an insane amount. Just around 170-220 horsepower. And I wanna slam it. Just to where it looks nice while still being able to go up a curb and not rip my bumper off (pizza delivery requires me to be able to pull into a driveway without 2x4s Lol xD)
James Matteu
Um, I think I'm getting old (34) or I've just been in the Honda scene for too many years (tuning since high school). I read that last post and thought... Pizza delivery? Wants 170-220? Keep it stock. You don't make enough money to go big and in the end its either go big or go home. Since you don't know much about cars it's not wise to fiddle with what is not mere transportation but your sole means of income unless they'll let you deliver pizza on a bicycle. Save your money and buy a Prelude. Sell the Si to someone who will enjoy a nice unmolested Civic Si, the ONLY b-series motor released in the US HONDA (Acura was always a different game for the US market) market as a sports model (CRV wasn't a sport model). Edit: you don't have the car yet. Based on what you want, get a Prelude, stop looking for Civic Si's. Possibly with seats and since I am a big fan of audio maybe a double din navigation system. with new speakers, tweeters and sub. I made a mistake in doing an engine swap first. I Blew my b16 and now its costing me a lot more money to fix the blown motor. Edited April 1, 2013 by 97b16dapek

I know all the problems with it due to me driving it for hte last month or so. The transmission is griding in 3rd and pops out of second. There is oil in the trans. I belive it's the synchros. and the engine could use some help too. I'm thinking about buying a b18 engine/trans and swapping it into the dx. I have a sound system in it already. Haha xD I'm a bass head. I just need to buy new tweeters.
