Starting Problems

I have a 1998 Accord EX 2.3L VTEC with 230k miles. I recently replaced the catalytic converter, head gasket, and battery. The car had been running fine for a month. It starts fine still when sitting for a long time, but if I drive a short distance to run errands, the car is hard to start. It sputters and idles low and eventually stalls. The engine shakes and the exhaust smells of gas. I have been holding the gas when starting the car to make sure the car idles enough to stay on and after a few tries it starts back up and runs fine. It only does this if I am running errands, driving short distance and leaving the car parked for 30 mins-1 hour. I work 12 hour shifts and the car starts perfectly fine before and after work.

Please reply if you know what might cause this...thanks.
