looking to swap my d16y5 for a y7

Unless you are in a country other then the USA, or someone played oddball motor swap from an HX, you don't have a y5 in your 97 Civic EX. Your default 1997 USDM Civic EX is a y8, in which case installing a y7 (even if rebuilt) is a big step backwards in performance.

 

You might want to take some engine cleaner to that stamping on the block and make sure that 5 isn't actually an 8.
