jst2cln Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 i have a 96 ex auto civic. i bought a d15z1 e-vtec out of the 95 vx civic. thats the issue exactly. how do i make the obd1 engine work in my obd2 car?
Raley Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Legally, you dont. You could convert the motor to obd 2 or the car to obd1. What price and abilities do i have to work with?
jst2cln Posted September 2, 2011 Author Posted September 2, 2011 first off thanks for replying to help. and is that a eg with a sol front clip? i know i have to convert one or the other but my options of how is what im looking for...........Personally id rather convert the motor than the car so trouble codes would be easier to read and this is just a tempory motor i want to go back obd2 dohc when its available. Im really just wanting the car goin for right now i just bought it and want to focus on other areas first so i want to put as least as possible in this engine. its got e vtec! lame! now ive heard a few people talking about hacking the wiring harnesses together but that sounds like a lot that could go wrong. if thats the only option im enough skilled to do that myself i am a mechanic for a living but id rather not if theres other options. i know they make the adapter harnesses for the tegs for the opposite way but what about this? that would be simple and clean ive used them before. if converting the car turned to be the easier option for parts or the labor envolved how would i have to do that?
Raley Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 They do make jumper harnesses and there 100-150 in price, you'll also need the adapter kit unless your normal motot was one of the few with 0bd1 plug ends....

jst2cln Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 i found em cheaper at hondaswaps racing for around $70. yet there lies another problem. i want to use the existing auto trans that is in the car I'm not wanting to convert to 5spd til i do a b swap. so what are my options as far as running the engine with the stock ex ecu and harness? it is a vtec engine after all and i have to have the obd2 ecu to run the trans.
jst2cln Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 im sure there will engine codes since the obd1 engine wont have all the sensors the obd2 ecu is looking for but i saw where someone else was discussing swapping the oil pump from the d16y8 onto the d15. is this possible?
jst2cln Posted September 4, 2011 Author Posted September 4, 2011 well incase anyone else runs into this problem taking the obd2 intake mani, alt, and dizzy and swapping it to the obd1 engine is the way to go. bolts right up and plugs right in just that simple.
Raley Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 except for the crank position sensor doesn't exist on obd-1 cars... and a few other things...
