pcastiglione Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 I was driving to work and my civic shut off. I was doing 45 mph when it happened and It wouldnt start after that. No engine light, and the temp was fine I checked the fuses and they are all ok. Any. Idea's?
DelSolSweetie Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 was it perfectly fine before it cut off? no funny electrical issues? (like radio cutting off or something) how many miles since your last timing belt change?

No issues with the radio, I have only had the car a little over a month and haven't had any issues with until now. It has 105k on the original motor.
Xeryon Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Turning off while driving is sometimes a timing belt breaking. You'll need to pull the valve cover off to be able to remove the timing belt cover and see if it's still in place. The valve cover is just four small bolts and one gasket. Should take you 5 minutes.

I don't think it's the timing belt, I took off the distributor cap and tried starting it and the rotor turns, if it was the timing belt the rotor wouldn't turn. Then I pulled one of the plug wires and tested it, it's not getting spark. So I think it could be the coil (which is inside the distributor) or the module.
Xeryon Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Could have also jumped on timing, but distributor is a good place to work from as well. Kind of unusual for one to just fail in-use though. Usually they just stop working the next time you go to start it. Broken is broken regardless of how and when.
