I found an intercooler/turbo kit for 500$ shipping is 70$ for my 1993 honda civic ex

I want to know what i have to do in order to have this in my car.

And about how much it would cost.

I have a sub in my car.

As if it ^^ mattered =)

Engine swap may be in mind. Not quite sure yet though.

Current engine: 1.6l 125hp I4 D16z6 Sohc 106 lb-ft torque.

So far i have newish front brake pads, rims, and tires all have 2500 miles on them... and stock everything else. the sub will be powered by a different battery soon.

I would lower the car 1st. And then I would forget about buying a $500 turbo kit to go on a SOHC motor. Its too much work for not enough fun in my opinion. You need to do research of your own. You need to learn everything can about what your thinking about doing to your car. Once you have done this, then you spend the money and make the car the way you want it. One thing to keep in mind; Cheap, Fast, Reliable. You can only have two of those at a time.

those power/torque numbers are at the crank. wheel horsepower is more along the line of 100hp/94lbs tq. what all comes in the turbo kit? if you get a log manifold you can keep your a/c. if not then you'll most likely be talking in out.

dont listen to turd nuts up here^ lol. its not a lot of work, just time consuming because you have to make sure everything fits and doesnt rub in any way. its gonna cost 500 or more for a dyno tune. that is a must. if you get a set of eagle rods you can up the boost. but other than that youll be stuck with 7-8psi on stock internals. it would net you roughly 195 whp on 91/93 octane.

here is a link to everything you need to know about turbo'ing your d series

http://www.hondaforums.com/index.php?/topic/36506-boosting-your-d-series-basics/

under no circumstances should you have any questions about building a kit and such if you read that.

read that thread first. then ask the questions if you have any

Thank you.

This helped a lot.

I'm about to start taking automotive classes at a near Technical college. All of this will start making more sense.

Would it be more worth it to do a dohc vtec engine swap then turbo it? Because the z6 isn't vtec.

wow.......

um z6 is vtec, along with y8 for the d series motors.

as far as boost, built your own kit, those $500 egay ones are crap (ive seen some where the turbine housing is held together with epoxy)

as far as swapping... why? D's looooove the boost. Right now I have 2 sols

a 93 with a boosted z6 @ 14lbs, and she will KILL any B, H, or K swap on the road. And its all stock internals.

and I have a 95 with a b7 thats bored over to 1.7 and had some head work done, cams, etc and dynoed at 151hp. She can hold her own.

Honestly If i were you, i would first look into getting a well done suspension (when you take corners faster, you feel like your always going faster)

My setup ran me about 800 from start to finish, and the car feels like it rides on rails, but enough give to make it a comfortable long haul road trip car / daily driver (solvic, check my build thread)

and while your doing that, start learning, and buying parts for your power gains (whether they are boost, or swap)

your thinking trim levels

in 1993 there were 2 trims to the del Sol

the S (d15b7)

and the Si (d16z6)

then in 94 they had 3 trim levels

the S (d15b7)

the Si (d16z6)

and the VTEC (b16?)

in 96 the motors changed with the addition of OBD2

S (d16y7)

Si (d16y8)

VTEC (b16?)

(and dont ask the engines for the VTEC sols, im a D series guy, i dont even pay attention to the B series)
