93 accord h22 swap question

Recommended Posts

im thinking about doing an h22 swap into my 93 accord and i know its not very complicated but i was just wondering if it would bolt up to my automatic transmission or if i had to do the 5 speed swap on it? i would just really like to keep my auto lol. any info would be greatly appriciated!! thanx.

you can get an auto h22

the question is why not a manual?

no reason other than just not really into the racing scene anymore lol. my engine has a lot of miles on it and the h22 swap for this car is so easy that i feel like i would just be wasting money to put an f series engine back into it. would i need to get the prelude tranny mounts too?

A 5 speed transmission is hardly a 'racing scene' item. The fact that you want to install a H22 in your car is far more 'racy' then either transmission choice.

As for an answer to your original question: A H22 and F22 transmission are essentially the same housing aside from the gear ratios. You should be able to bolt your H22 directly to your original auto F22 transmission. IIRC the motor mounts are identical.

Which ECU to use is an entirely different issue though. General thought for a manual trans is that you will need to get a P13 (early 90's vtec prelude) and do a little custom wiring. For an auto trans I have not yet found information as to what works, although I would assume that an early 90's vtec prelude auto ecu would suffice.

well thanx for the response. why would you want to spend all the time and money on an auto to 5 speed conversion if you werent going to race it? i dont think i would want to race an automatic lol. anyway i just think the h22 is a better engine definitely not a "racy" choice.... it is an accord after all not really an ideal choice for high performance upgrades. just my opinion i guess lol.. thanx for the advice though!!

I have never raced, on road or off, and the only transmission type I will EVER use is a manual. Your theory is busted right there. Especially if you look at the fact that the fastest race cars use automatic transmissions anyway. Manual transmissions achieve better fuel mileage and a heightened connection to the car you are driving. Automatics cause you to be disconnected from the car and driving it, thus allowing for more opportunities for 'distracted' driving.

Going from a 140hp motor to a 190/200 hp motor is definitely going to be a speed increase.

Let us know what work you do and if you have further problems. The general consensus is that an h22 mated to an f22 trans, auto or manual, provides a very nice combination of mileage and power with a nice smooth acceleration curve. Would like to see you complete this.
