project94s Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 whats up guys just bought the sol and already hate the underpowered non-vtec d15b....so i read up on the forums and found the mini-me swap and thought it sounded legit so im in the process of gathering parts. i got my head off a d16z6 and today we completely disassembled it, here are the parts i plan to run mini-me swap with: skunk 2 valve springs farrea valves farrea valve seals stock valve spring retainers skunk2 stage 1 cam with adjustalbe cam gear and necessary oem parts for the swap. also i have a performer-x edelbrock intake manifold on order (doing a 75 shot direct port injection) AEM cold air intake dc 4-2-1 headers magnaflow high flow cat tanabe medallion series exhaust btw engine going to be mated to 92-95 civic si transmission i havent quite got all the parts yet i have about another 800 to spend or so but my question is what is the estimated amount of power im going to be looking at with this setup.....ime hoping in the 215-225 range....is that unrealistic and if so what else would be necessary to get there? main idea is to be in the mid 12 range....im sure some of you are there and beyond what do i have to do to get there?
BrIaN EG2 Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 nobody on here really does N/A builds or sohc builds.. let alone sohc N/A builds.. im sure itll be stout, but IMO its still a sohc.. should have went dohc or did a sohc vitara setup i guess.. 5,000 HOES POWAHH!!
Pballer2005 Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 whats up guys just bought the sol and already hate the underpowered non-vtec d15b....so i read up on the forums and found the mini-me swap and thought it sounded legit so im in the process of gathering parts. i got my head off a d16z6 and today we completely disassembled it, here are the parts i plan to run mini-me swap with: skunk 2 valve springs farrea valves farrea valve seals stock valve spring retainers skunk2 stage 1 cam with adjustalbe cam gear and necessary oem parts for the swap. also i have a performer-x edelbrock intake manifold on order (doing a 75 shot direct port injection) AEM cold air intake dc 4-2-1 headers magnaflow high flow cat tanabe medallion series exhaust btw engine going to be mated to 92-95 civic si transmission i havent quite got all the parts yet i have about another 800 to spend or so but my question is what is the estimated amount of power im going to be looking at with this setup.....ime hoping in the 215-225 range....is that unrealistic and if so what else would be necessary to get there? main idea is to be in the mid 12 range....im sure some of you are there and beyond what do i have to do to get there? i don't think you will even make it to the 200whp mark without more compression. the stage 1 cam isn't worth it, and that valvetrain is overkill with a small cam and you don't have anything about bumping compression in here, which you should do.
BrIaN EG2 Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 or he should have just spent his money more wisely and got a b swap and put a few bolt ons like i did and have 205hp at the crank with a tune
Pballer2005 Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 for the money you spent on the B he could have well over 200whp on the D. But thats short term. in the long run you will get more power out of a B swap.
BrIaN EG2 Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 YESSIRRR!!!! well.. i spent $1950 for the swap and got skunk2 cam gears, an exedy stage 2 clutch, and a JDM integra SiR-G LSD for free.. then i paid 120 for axles, 60 for t bracket, and 100 for chipped P28.. then i paid $458 for a hondata S100 and a dyno tune so $2,688 for a 205hp GSR swap
project94s Posted December 9, 2009 Author Posted December 9, 2009 ok as far as compression goes the only boosting i know that will take place is dropping the middle layer out of the y8 gasket and supposedly the mini-me setup runs somewhere around 10.1:1 compression, i also have a local machine shop that is going to port/polish my head for me, im considering having it milled down a bit to also increase compression, does neone think that would be worth the effort..... ok now as for the d-series build the purpose behind it is that i want to run a set-up that not many people run and still have a stout engine...i personally find it more gratifying having a rare build that is putting out more power than other more common set-ups....i mean for instance i had a 96 S10 SS with a built 4.3L that ran 12.78 pretty consistent, sure i could have put a 350 in it and been in the same range but it wasnt as fun, i love the suprise factor....i mean i know it may be stupid but im trying to justify the build..... lastly im taking the cam suggestions into consideration and possibly bumping up to at least the stage 2.....im just avoiding putting the stock cam back in since the whole head is disassembled i may as well bump it up a lil more while i can....... btw im not wanting 225 daily driving im compensating for the 75-1000 shot direct port injection i want to run it at the track and thats the only place the spray will take place......main idea being that i want to keep up with a lexus is-f in a quarter mile...it runs 12.6 and i want to be at least on its bumper by the line.
BrIaN EG2 Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 umm there isnt many things in the honda world that alot of people dont have done.. built D series are everywhere in the honda world.. true there are more built b series but thats just because you can get alot more power out of them.. and now k series is on the rise soo yeah.. there isnt much you can do that hasnt been done before and is still being done..
Xeryon Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 A stroked d16 with a d17 crank and a z6 head pushing 11.5:1.
project94s Posted December 9, 2009 Author Posted December 9, 2009 ok now that i read my reply my purpose does seem kinda vague.....i know that there are several d series builds and that people use the b seires more often simply cuz the possibilities are endless for the platform......what i meant to say is that i just want to self gratification of blowing past someone using only the sohc vtec platform.....the b series would be expectd even the h series wouldnt b unheard of, iono its just a feeling of satisfaction making the lesser of the two a spry vehicle if you know where im coming from.....as far as outlandish swaps we want to find another civic/sol and swap in a northstar engine out of the caddies into one....something about a v8 powered sol just sends a chill up your spine....were in the r&d stage of that now, no parts have been purchased were just comparing specs to see if itll work how we think it will.....
BrIaN EG2 Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 yeah i know what you mean.. it feels good to me when i beat V8's and new Si's and type S's.. like saturday night when i beat a 5.0 foxbody mustang, i was all happy and crap and ROFLin but i was rofl because he kept wanting to race saying it was driver error... RIIIIIIGHT, just mad b/c he got PWNT by a 165whp b series del sol
Pballer2005 Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 assuming you are using the a6 block and 2 layer gasket then you should get around 10.65:1. a .05" mill will get you in the 12:1 range which is what most people are happy with on pump gas. you'll want better valve springs and retainers for a stage 2 cam. bisimoto is pretty highly recommended and i think will do a custom grind to incorporate what you have so far.
BrIaN EG2 Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 im still waiting on the pictures of all this
CRG7 Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 im still waiting on the pictures of all this gingers like sols...
BrIaN EG2 Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 gingers like sols... lol!! ill give him the benefit of the doubt.. i give him another week to get in pics, then he will be the new ginger
project94s Posted December 9, 2009 Author Posted December 9, 2009 well i can take a pic of the stripped down head and try to track down some of my reciepts for online ordering but thats all i can offer until i recieve the parts.....and trust me no offense is take to the skepticism cuz im sure there are tons of BSers out there.....right now all i have purchased is the z6 head (just finished disassembling it today off to be media blasted friday), the vtec solenoid, the z6 timing belt, and a cam seal....still trying to get opinions from people who have ran similar set ups before i finalize some of my purchases..waiting on the bid time to decrease on my farrea valves lol ill try to get some progress pics up asap
