wannaBstuntin
Minors don't require a whole lot. Usually you can get a minor really easily in something that you already take a lot of classes for. For instance, I'm a CS major, and I take a lot of Math classes, so if I wanted a math minor, it would only require like 3 more math classes. The same probably applies for you, being an engineer. Minors in something totally unrelated or double majors are a little more work. As for internships, try www.fastweb.com They are run by monster.com, and the provide college info, scholarships, jobs, etc too. Sorry about the bf, but you'll be better off finding someone much more suited to you and who doesn't have so many issues to work through.
..SSR..
If you are wanting to go into the auto industry, I would suggest a double or minor in electrical or aeronautical. Check with some of the race teams in the Carolinas for internships. Check with the NASCAR teams soon before they get even more busy when the season starts back up. lceah
okay so me and the bf broke up finally.. okay everyone knows im going to school for mechanical engineering.. how much harder is it to double major or have a minor.. i know lina did it so i know she can give me some advice i was actually thinking about a minor in philosophy.. and do any of yall know a good website or something that offers internships/co-ops?? 1) I'm sorry about it but you are better off go have fun! You will find the man of your dreams one day 2) if you really wanna put in the extra time/classes/money, I would say do another engineering minor which should be only a few more classes if you use your electives by taking that minor's basic classes. 3) I didn't do a double major. I got BS chemical eng. and MS mechanical engineering, which took me one year because during BS, I took lots of mechanical eng. classes for electives and such... 4) minor in philosophy is great but you could also just read all those books and enjoy it instead of having to deal with classes imo 5) search everywhere: monster.com, careerbuilder.com, local job sites, usajobs and all and craigslist too. Go to specific companies' sites and apply there too...many companies have "programs" where you can get hired right off college and work in whatever you want... gl hugs
airjordan223
if you want to do a minor, i would agree with the above and stick with something engineering. a lot of the courses overlap so you could save some time. i know if i wanted a math minor i would only need to take one or two more classes to get that because of the overlapping. ME is not that easy, but if you take some summer courses like im doing, it makes your other semesters a little easier. as for the internships, most if not all colleges should be doing career fairs. one in the fall, and one in the spring. your spring career fair should be coming up soon. also talk with your advisor, and its always good to get buddy buddy with your professors because they can hook you up as well. DelSolSweetie
If you are wanting to go into the auto industry, I would suggest a double or minor in electrical or aeronautical. i believe electrical engineering is the devil im going to look into a math minor too but i really like my philosophy class and i would only need 5 more classes for a minor which would be easy to take over summer and as extra electives.. its a nice change from the norm. this is my day in school physics->engineering->math->engineering -> o m g i get to think about abstract ideas instead of numbers its a nice break.. do minors really mean anything when gettin a job or whatever though? ..SSR..
EE is where its at right now. With all the electronics being used in the world. A friend of mine got hired by AGR straight out of college (EE major) as a data aquisition tech. He monitors all the cars sensors during the race and maintains the systems on it. During the IRL offseason he flies around the world doing data aq. for some of AGR's cars that race in other series. Take a look at what you want to do and look at what is required for it and what will help you get it. Minor or practice what will help you (i.e. if you want a job where an EE minor will help you but don't want to take classes, study the theory and put it into practice building your own electrical system for your car or something). Every single employee at AGR has their own racing or school (HPDE's) experience before being hired.
lceah
^true...EE is huge...but ME is needed too because most things are electromechanical (need both) for jobs, minor isn't too big of a deal unless it's something that needs it, as Ryan said... it's great that you want to be a professor (need PhD for most universities and need MS for colleges usually), but you have to get good at what you are majoring in and get good grades. I remember last time you mentioned your grades on here and they weren't all A's and B's, so you need to work on that to get a good gpa to go to a good MS program and then on and all...hugs

Pballer2005
exactly! EE is the devil would any one of you fine people happen to know where to get the RIGHT solution manuals to the RIGHT edition of a book? i started out as an EE major with a focus on bio. med. but after struggling through C++ and calc i said screw it so i know your pain. i've always had a hard time with languages (even english ) and went to just bio. any additional classes are going to take up more time but might not be a bad thing to have on paper. to get internships you have to know people. if you just walk up to a high end business and asked to be hired you are going to have a hard time. they wont just take you word when you tell them you are good at what you do. they want to know what other people think about you. ask your professors if they know who to talk to. alot of times the school will have a career service center that can hook you up with the right people.
