Exhaust question

Recommended Posts

I'm kind of new to imports. I want to change the sound of it without really doing/spending too much. It has a really high pitched ricer sound and it gets really annoying. The guy that previously owned the car told me the car has an HP Matrix exhaust that he had specially tuned for the engine (F20A dohc, imported from Japan). My question is about a resonator. How much will it change the sound? Will it take out the ricer sound? Or will it just lessen it little? Does anyone know anything about this particular type of exhaust? I know nothing about it and haven't really been able to find much on it. I just really want to know if it's a good exhaust and how to change the sound without much effort or money. I guess I had a few questions, lol. Thanks!

from my experience it will make it sound lower pitched and not as retarded loud. It also makes it a bit quieter. I like a nice deep sounding import. I HATE RICER EXHAUST. Hell my exhaust rusted off at the middle point where the cat is at or was, and with the major exhaust leak it sounds better then most Honda's around here. So I would recommend a resonator.

i have a unniversal oval style magnaflow or flowmaster (cant remember who) welded in place with the stock piping, cats, and resonators and its very quiet, just deeper. you wont hear it in the car when ur puttering around town.

You would also be surprised how much a cold air intake will improve sound

It will sound the same, it will just be much louder and deeper. If that makes any sense.

Gives it a nice motor sound

I have a cold air intake on it already that my boyfriend bought. It still has an insane ricer sound and I hate it. I'm almost tempted to just buy a new exhaust system altogether. The guy that owned it before me said it was custom built at a muffler shop and welded on. It's got 1 3/4" piping and the muffler has a 2 1/4" inlet and a 4" single exhaust tip.... He just recently had this down, maybe 8 months ago or so. I like something with a little more growl and deep. Not something shrill and screaming down the road.

LOL 4" exhaust tip? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Yeah, I know, crazy right? The guy liked it. He thought it was great. I'm lookin at it goin, "yeah... That's gotta go." lol. I think I may just change the muffler to something a little more discrete.

The Sol's Tanabe tip is just under 4 inches. If I go with that exhaust system for the Prelude, the tip will be 4 1/2 inches.

If it were 4 inch piping, that would be another story.
