Hondadawg
I have a 1994 Honda Civic 5-speed transmission and I am having trouble shifting gears. I started to have trouble with 1st gear only, but now am having trouble getting in/out of all the gears. I have not done any modifications to this car and is has run well over the years. What is happening and how do I fix it?
alex37211
A start would be to change the fluid. Drain that old stuff out and fill it with 10-30 motor oil. If that doesn't make it better, check your slave cylinder and change the fluid in your master cylinder / clutch system. If that doesn't work, buy another tranny. Like $150 for a good one. (i'm selling one right now)

PITBULL111584
If is not the slave or master you have a 1&2 gear fork broken they are really easy to fix but if you dont have the knowledge just buy a new one in the junkyar for like &
..SSR..
Broken fork doesn't stop it from going in gear. Just harder to get into gear. Broken 1st fork doesn't affect other gears.

(i'm selling one right now) When I had this problem........luckily it was just that it was in need of new fluid.....and that could very well be the reason for you too.........although i've never heard of filling it with motor oil....i'm sure it would work though.........anyway....if you change the fluid in your master cylinder....it's a bitch to get all the air back out of it......I learned that the hard way.....so...just a tip......fill it from the bottom up...gets all the small air bubbles out....go to an auto parts store and get a small oil can....you know...the one with the pump handle on it....and attach it to the bottom of the clutch line.....
