Looking to buy a 2001-2005 Civic..

I was originally looking to purchase a 1999-2002 Accord, but found out through this forum and several others that those cars has massive issues with the automatic transmissions. Seeing as how the manual 4 cylinder version is hard to find in our area with low miles, we have decided to broaden our search and include Civics. I didn't realize that the passenger space difference was negligible between the 99-02 Accord and the 01-05 Civic.

Same question.....different car. What should we look for as we go looking at these cars? Are there any specific problems that come up with them? At this time, we are looking at both coupes and 4 doors (we have a teenage daughter that will soon be 6 feet tall and rides in the back seat LOL), trying to stick with a 4 cylinder manual, as this is the best gas mileage. Did Honda get their act together and fix the automatic transmission in this generation of Civic, or are they troublesome like the Accords? Any particular year better than another? We are looking to get a sunroof...are their any leaking issues? Do these Civics typically last like the Hondas you hear about that have 100,000+ miles? We heard about computer issues in the 2000 to current models.....have these cars displayed any inherent computer flaws?

Sorry for all of the questions...I just want to be informed when we go looking....

When well mainted every honda (infact most cars) can go past 100,000miles no problem. But the problem with auto trannies is from what I've scene they are rather expensive to replace once they go back. If your wanting gas milage too manuals supposed to net a better average than auto's. Two of my friends have coupe civics of that model year and like them alot. No problems with either of their sunroofs either and replacing seals isn't a terrible issue either. Never really heard of it being a problem on any civics, Del Sol's yeah a major problem but not Civics.

Computer issues that your hear about can you elberate on that? Only thing I'm thinking is maybe these "computer issues" are when tuning the vehicles considering the older vehicles with earlier emissions where less restrictive.

All of those V6 tranny issues, have been replaced at dealer cost to date. Nothing to assume that's going to change as Honda realizes there is a design flaw. The 4 cylinder autos are perfectly fine however.

The seventh gen Civic has no recalls or any major issues that I'm aware of, and I've done some research on www.civicforums.com

I previously owned a 2001 Civic and it had 180K miles on it. No problems whatsoever. Only reason I don't have it now is because someone rearended me and totalled it.

I now have a 2005 Civic and have no complaints about that either. It's a coupe and I've still been told that the back seats are actually quite comfortable.

Only difference I know between the 2001-2003 and the 2004-2005 is the headlight and taillight styles. I personally prefer the 04-05 style, but that's a matter of taste.

Oh and I get probably 35mpg on average and the best I've gotten is 39mpg highway.

Civics will all be 4cyl, by the way. And Accords are the only Hondas that I've heard of having common transmission issues.
