Hello World, or, Just Got a Del Sol

Hi everybody! I bought a '95 Del Sol Si a few weeks ago and have finally gotten around to playing with it! I do have a couple questions, however:

1. Does anybody know where the sensor is that lets the car know when the roof is secured (not in the trunk, i found that one, but on the actual roof area of the car)? The HUD always has that light illuminated above the car.

2. Does anybody know how to remove the gauge cluster from the dashboard? I would like to get behind it and install a new face and would rather not poke and prod and pull if someone knows exactly how to do it :)

Oh yes, i forgot to say, I will be posting pictures soon but she is in need of a little love... a mean hummer backed up over her hood and left it a little painted and dented! I'm working on that, I'm replacing the hood and getting her repainted black. Other than that she's in pretty decent shape, interior is pretty nice and the dashboard looks brand spanking new! The seats need a little attention and the floor mats are getting replaced. The door panels are fine for now but are worn and eventually I'm going to replace them. There is an aftermarket stereo installed, and I just put 4 Kicker speakers in. I'm going to install a sub in there (15" is what I'm planning on unless otherwise advised)...

Anyways thanks in advance for all of your help!

Ugh, if I remember correctly you just need to unscrew the two screws that are at the top of the cluster then carefully pull the cluster out and unclip the electrical connectors from the back of the aux/cc/defroster/hazard switches and the gauges. I believe that's all you have to do. It's been a while since I've removed it.

I've had damn near every subwoofer combination in my sol (1x12, 1x10, 1x8, 2x10, 2x12) ranging anywhere from 200 - 800 watts RMS and the best sounding sub I've had so far is one 8" in a ported box with only 250rms @ 12.8 volts. I've also had subs in the cabin (always sounded anemic.)

The sol has tiny dimensions and and it just doesn't have the volume to allow large powerful subs to breathe.

Of course sound is subjective and someone may tell you they have 2 x 15s with 10 billion watts of power and it sounds AWESOME but those are for people who just like teeth rattling bass with no real attention to SQ. If you're purely into SPL be prepared to do some work to get any real results out of the sol.

Oh and welcome!

If that light is on with both handles down, check to make sure one of them isn't stripped and the top is actually latched. If not, check the sensor/wiring.

ya the top is latched completely, and both handles work. the posts come out of both sides and the roof is most definitely secured. do you know where the sensor is located on the roof? I appreciate your help and anybody else's help!

on a side note - I like this car a WHOLE lot more than the other compact that I used to own (1990 Eclipse GST)
