bump for Mac still being awesome

My roommates PC died because of a virus and he had to buy a new one

Downloaded the Safari 4 beta today and it rules. 42x faster than IE7 and 3.5x faster than Firefox 3. http://crave.cnet.co.uk/software/0,39029471,49301219,00.htm

He bought some pre-assembled PC from ibuypower, he thinks it's great because of the transparent casing with blue LEDs everywhere

My MacBook Pro still hasn't had a single problem in the nearly 6 months I've had it now

oooo nice n cheesy then haha

Mine just said I need to back it all up and reinstall OSX, not entirely sure why, I just need to get a new hard drive somewhere. Looking for a cheap 1TB Firewire 800 one, but its a tad hard to find for decent price!

dont know about the brand but seems reasonable to me..

beware of cheap HD, they take a dump pretty quick (the voice of experience). you'd be better off just buying an internal HD and putting it in a case, would be cheaper

I beg to differ. I have a 1Tb external WD harddrive, and it's been great.

i guess it depends because when i bought my hd it was cheaper to buy an internal unit and get a case for it, its prolly not the same now. the cheaper brand hd's wont last though. WD is pretty much the standard, heck it's the OEM brand on all the computer's i've taken apart so far. i'm just giving you a warning because i bought a cheaper 250gb drive 2 Christmases ago and it went out on me over the summer, and i had a fun time trying to get all my data back off it.

The only thing I don't like about the new MacBook Pro is the keyboard made of chiclets.

I love the comfy keyboard on mine

Seb, my reasoning for having multiple HDD's (I have 2 internal 320 WD Raptors and 2 external 500 WD) is so that I can back up all of my stuff multiple times.

I can't see myself needing a TB in a single drive unless it was foruse with a web server.

how in the hell did my original post of a video where two transforming computers battle each other that was supposed to be fun turn into this huge controversial and bickering thread?

thats what i wanna know

What is this of a bluetooth apple keyboard I hear of? Ideally I'd like to get an apple cinema display, wireless keyboard + mouse (already have the mouse), and just use my notebook as a clamshell.

And multiple HDDs is always a good idea. I have a 250GB Seagate external drive right now, and plan on picking up a 1TB drive sometime soon since they're getting cheap now.

most of the major anti virus software packages (norton, mcafee, etc.) are so intrusive and clash with other programs that they are more of a hassle than having a virus. they check every program, every web page, every download/upload, and even filter out all of your networks ports, and as you know when you put a filter somewhere it slows things down. i run the free version of AVG and it quietly runs in the background and has caught any problems so far, its not flashy or has big advertisement, but its simple and works, and is free.

i've also noticed that there are just certain things you do not try to run, click on, or download. i think you just learn this over time. you can kinda tell when something seems sketch and you just know not to mess with it. most of the time i just close AVG and go about my business normally, and the only ting i've gotten in the past 6 months are a few low threat cookies.

Kaspersky. Unintrusive unless there's a problem, one of the simplest to use, or if you go with 1.6 instead of 1.7, the one you can set up exactly how you want it. I've run Panda Titanium, Ad-Aware + Spybot + AVG, Norton, McAfee, and a couple others I can't remember the names, and Kaspersky is the only one that hasn't bogged down my computer. It also catches far more than the competition. It's a bit cheaper than Norton, although you can get it "free" through various sites. I got a 1 year subscription for signing up with Gamefly  Wish I could still afford it... But that's another topic. Anyway, Kaspersky passively scans everything you do, without slowing you down noticeably. If you run a full scan... Well, a virus suite hasn't been invented that doesn't bring you to a screeching halt when it's running in the foreground... Just don't try and watch a movie off of the same drive you're scanning. AVG's great for basic protection, but if you want the power and protection of Norton or McAfee without the giant footprint, Kaspersky's the way to go. There are one or two programs that are better.... but they're $30-$60 more.

hmm gay I hadn't noticed that it isn't backlit. That kinda sucks. You still can't fault it though when its as small and thin as it is...mmm.

Transformers 2 is coming out on 26th of June...Can't wait for that, just hope it lives up to the original. I'm looking forward to seeing the animation in it.

i cant not have a number pad, thats why when i bought a new keyboard i went with the wired one. i liked my old wireless, but i love how the keys feel on the new wired ones, much like a laptop keyboard. its also thin and sexy. very solid feeling keyboard.

back lit keyboards are only for when you are trying to look at porn while your roommate sleeps... i just splurged on a generic logitec keyboard, my loyal dell keyboard finally took a dump on me after i spilled my drink on it, and a spiffy razor deathadder for counter strike source. seb and gary, you guys should play to................... wait nvm
