1995 Accord EX, Ball Joints and Wheel Bearings

So I recently went into a mechanic down the street with the intent to get my front brakes done. He called me back an hour later saying that the brakes were fine, but the ball joints and wheel bearings on each side were shot, and that was the sound I was hearing. He wanted to charge me 1450$ for that, and another 300 for tires. The total with parts and labor, including two tires at 84$ a pop, was 1750$. Is he over charging me? I don't usually know much about cars, and figured a lot of you might know how that kind of stuff goes.

Thanks!

Sounds like it. I'm not sure what bearings cost to replace but I had the front ball joints done on my car by Honda for $200 or so I think. I wouldn't just buy 2 tires either. If they're bad, replace them all and rotate them on time.
