Got my baby back :)

Recommended Posts

so the del sol is SITTING IN MY YARD!!!

okay but anyway.. its not a happy occasion.. this is why.. please tell me what you guys think

when i wrecked it.. the guy said '2500 parts and labor'.. guy kept telling me the frame wasnt really messed up.. and the block wasnt cracked.. and the radiator wasnt cracked.. and dont buy another car fix the sol.. so i did.. i am not the only one who heard him say 2500 parts and labor either

oh but yah.. anyway.. block turns out to be cracked(dont see how this is my fault cause i said i didnt want to fix it if it was cracked but he kept tellin me it wasnt and by the time he did something to it i had already bought like everything else to fix it so they went ahead and fixed it).. subframe turns out to be more messed up then he said.. (still not seein how its my fault that he didnt look at it good enough).. oh and not to mention i asked if the radiator was cracked for THREE MONTHS and i kept gettin told no.. and oh wow guess what.. three days ago he tells me its cracked.. but a guy i know gave me one and i <3 him for it haha

but anyway.. i handed this guy 1k to start on it.. then 400 a few weeks later.. and ive bought all the parts to fix it except he bought the control arm, axle, and tie rods.. anyway.. after adding up the money ive spent and the money ive gave him.. its like $3500

so ive been asking him for about a month how much more it'll be so i can have my dad help me out.. and he kept sayin dont worry about it.. so today he says its done(we all know ive heard that like 10000000 times before) and i go to pick it up and theres all this drama that i owe him $1100 still.. i was like uh WHAT.. cause yesterday when we were talking about money he said nothing about all that cause i said i had already spent like over 1k then what it should have been..

anyway im like f*ck it im comin to pick the car up.. and then theres more argueing and hes like 'take it blah blah blah' and we were like fine.. well anyway.. im mad cause he had it for 3 months.. and this is whats wrong with it still

*brakes are super noisy in the front.. i know new rotors/pads make some noise but i mean it sounds like metal on metal

*speedometer doesnt work

*says the top is off when it is on

*hood latch is ghetto rigged from hell (how did my twin hook up his hood latch?)

*the car magically got like 2 bad scratches on it at the shop.. he 'touched' one up but its so still there(ill take pics in the daytime)

*i dont think he put enough pearl on the front

*he lost some of the lugnuts so some of the rims have like 2 lugnuts on them

*windshield is still cracked.. which is one of the things he was sussposed to buy and install which he never did

*and the drivers side headlight bulb is out

but on the bright side.. it sounds soooooo f'in pretty

but one of my honda friends is comin over tomorrow to play fix everything wrong with the del sol.. and then im takin it to get a windshield.. and get a front end alignment.. and there will be pictures... oh yes many pictures

sue the pants off of him.

if you have witnesses for the things he said to you, quote and everything, then it is backed by law and it will hold up in court.

then pm me, and we can discuss details on getting even.

Hi Sarah,

Sorry to hear about your SOL.

I hate people who purposely lie to you in order to get your business.

When you handed them moneys did they give you any sort of receipt or work order detailing what they have done?

What is going to be your plans for the SOL. Do you need an engine block?

Lesson learned: Always have them write it down. By law they cannot charge you more then a certain percentage of the amount quoted unless you approve of it in writing.

It is indeed both a happy and tragic day. You now own one of the most expensive del sols on the road.

Way to look on the bright side!

And yeah, at most shops, they will give you a work order / receipt listing costs for everything. That can act as a contract in court. Always ask for one in the future. Some shops won't want to give you one. You'll know right then to take your business elsewhere.

you got a pm, oh btw, picked mine up yestaerday too! had to go back in tho today to have the seals adjusted, gas cap spring replaced, and a few other little things that we didnt notice when i picked it up. So my solvic is back on the road, still 2 tone, but atleast shes together and finaly has a brand new (yes NEW) rear quarter panel installed. :)

Whats up Sarah,

Nice to hear that you are stinking with the vehicle.

What major problems, if any, do you still have to iron out in the SOL.

I was asking in my previous post if you needed an engine block, because one of my friennds who owns a salvage yard down here in Florida, has a SOL that was hit in the back but the front is in great condition.

When I was out there this past weekend and saw the SOL, I thought of you. However, I did not know if you needed any parts for yours. I was thinking of pulling out the seats which are in great condition and putting them into my 1991 Rex.

As Xeryon said, get it in writing. The quote should have been in writing. Since you made payments on it, each payment should have been documented.

wasnt really payments though..

but anyway i know this all now and actually i would have never taken the car to that guy or gotten it fixed if i knew all this was going to happen..

but my speed sensor is fixed now.. the rest of the brakes go on tomorrow

and im going to try and clean the car up more tomorrow so the 10000 little imperfections are not so noticable

Wow, looks like you learned many a lesson out of this experience the hard way. That sucks but hopefully when your sol is back in nice shape and you're driving it around you'll forget all about that.

What kind of brakes did you put on there? Cuz if you got "high-performance" ones then just expect the noise for like, ever and ever.

Not necessarily the big brake kits -- I'm talking about the performance pads. The ones that are made for the track are very noisy; the ones made for "track and street performance" are usually just a little noisy. If you ran stock brakes in a big brake kit you'd have the same silent brakes as before but with more surface area in contact so you'd still stop better, which in my eyes would be best of both worlds. It's all well and good to drive a track car on the track, but there are certain reasons why they show up (and leave) on trailers generally, or at least most people swap pads out before the drive to and from.
