Tired Of Raspy Exhaust.

Repsol

Recommended Posts

I know people on here have told me that it's raspy because i'm not running a cat, running a header. I want to solve the problem because i'm truly tired of it. I just want something that sounds deep and throaty. What I have now, is obnoxiously loud. You can hear my car from like 2 miles away... Not good. Anybody have experience with having a raspy exhaust, and then making it not raspy anymore, or just any information at all would be helpful. Thanks.

Cable for the modem connection has been intermittent here lately after bitch ass Fay left.

And, I'd say that's a nice combination you've picked out for yourself.

Edit -- Rather than a stock cat you can use High Flow as well, might not restrict your setup quite as much.

Depends on the muffler you use. You get one that's pretty subdued and it'll make it more throaty than raspy. You get one that's big, like an N1 styled setup and you're gonna regret it.

Yeah the N1 style I have now is ridiculous. It's insanely loud. I'll try to get a video of how loud it is. It'll probably be too loud for the camera. I dunno.

Then consider that sh*t done. :) That would be hilarious. I undid the axleback when I bought that stock axleback and that sh*t was uber loud. I may do it again for sh*ts and giggles.

I went open header on a stock ass LS for a couple months. Fortunately I only put like 200 miles on it. That was rough stuff.

You could get a stock exhaust system and get a cutout somewhere between muffler and header. Just push a button, cutout opens and booya, instant noise.

Back to the topic at hand.......

Yes....I had that problem. The integra had a test pipe on it for awhile and it was HORRIBLY raspy.....I mean serious weedeater stuff. Putting the stock cat back on fixed. I also went through a period where there was no resonator in the exhaust....just the cat, piping, muffler. This setup also made it raspy and it also went away when I got a 22" Magnaflow resonator and put it in. For a very very brief period it had a straight pipe, and no resonator.....that was horrible.

Here recently the resonated tip on my comptech muffler rusted out and the stuff came out so that it's not resonated (just the tip) anymore. Once again I have a slight raspy sound but it's only from the time VTEC kicks in (4400 rpms) until the IAB's open up (6000ish). Sounds bad if I just hit VTEC and shift, but if I rev it to redline it sounds okay. I'm thinking of solving it by getting a vibrant flat black muffler to weld in place of the competch one.

I think the bottom line comes down to whether you have enough sound deadening in your exhaust system and partially due to the location of the sound deadening. and location. If you have a good stock or true high flow cat (catco) plus a good quality resonator (Magnaflow or Vibrant) and a decent muffler (find an oval instead of round muffler as they seem to be quiter) then you'll be okay.

honestly, add a turbo and the exhaust note will no longer be raspy, and sounds tits as well! reason being for this is that the cast iron of the turbo cancels out the resonant sound from the aluminum engine which is what causes the raspy'ness (its even there with stock exhaust).

this is what i just did, and it has made a world of a difference in the sol of my sols z6.

If you want to go to the quieter end of the spectrum I really like my Apexi WS2. I installed a high-flow cat, used a stock manifold on a stock d15 and the exhaust has a nice rumble to it. Under minor accel and cruising it really sounds stockish. If I get on it and wind it all the way up it really opens up and is quite loud.
